Front Wipers Wouldn't Switch Off...!!

As I was driving home this afternoon in the rain, the front wipers were working as normal.  When the rain stopped, the wipers kept on going and could not be stopped.  I had them on auto, switched that off then pressed the stalk down as normal but no joy.  The wipers kept on going even when the engine was off and the key out of the ignition.  Very strange.

Anyone have any ideas what could be the problem?  Once I got home, trying to locate the fuse box, suddenly they stopped wiping and have now begun working properly.  A bit weired,

Sound like the rain sensor has gone west. Look at the rain sensor behind the interior mirror to see if it's cone adrift.

Thanks, if it happens again how can I turn it off?  Looked for a fuse in the back and front fuse panels but had no idea which one.  Could I just pull a relay to temp stop it?

You should be able to unplug the sensor itself.  You lose intermittent wipers but at least they go on (and off) when you need them.  It's a circular device in the mirror mount.  You will also lose auto lights.

New sensor can be bought from BMW or on line.  We're about £100

Two types.  One for HUD equipped, and one for non HUD cars.
