Dpf error 4d4a and 452a

Post by 99ron » Sun Jan 17, 2016 9:01 pm

Getting errors 4D4A and 452A which are saying the DPF is end of life. I can clear the error but it comes back 10 mins later. DPF regen happened when i cleared them and the DPF seems ok. I had this on my old 535d and you could reset the DPF in the idrive to say it had been replaced. Was still good 40k miles later so this seems to be a mileage based error that does not necessarily mean the DPF is useless.
The E70 does not have that option in the idrive but I read that it can be reset using DIS. Had a nose in DIS under service functions, maintenance but the where the text says the DPF reset option would be just showed blanks -----.

Anyone know what i am talking about and has done this on the E70?

Cheers.

Is your car still doing a regen cycle?.
We also have the fault that says the DPF is at the end of its life on our 3.0d, it's actually had that fault since we bought the car about 2-3 years ago.
Our car is currently still doing a regen cycle and we now have 150k on the clock.

Have you tried taking it into a Dealer?  They use a fluid which cleans the DPF during a forced regen.  If they can tell you the procedure it might sort the problem?

Not sure that would fix it. Its doing a regen ok and seems to be working. The car seems fine. Not sure if these errors are purely mileage based or if there is a measurement its triggered on. Soot levels around 20g but ash is 63g and its the ash I guess that builds up and isnt cleared by regen. Maybe DIS cant do what I need on the E70. I know the DPF stopped being a CBS measurement around 2007 and I think 1st introduced on the E70.

Glad you are winning, and that's useful info.

BMW have obviously 'assumed' that after a fixed distance a DPF is scrap, when in fact it might be fine.  I find arbitrary things such as this annoying.  It's not as if it's a 'safety critical' item such as you might find in a helicopter engine!!
