Rust on lower section of rear tailgate

Post by splang » Sat Aug 06, 2016 3:50 pm

Hi all
This showed itself during a good clean - the paint came away.
Do you think it is covered by BMW rust/paint warranty.
Most is on the exterior but there is a small bit inside as you can see on the photos
Thank you
S

Certainly worth taking it to them and asking.

Is it me or is there a line of overspray on the black bumper protector strip ?
Clearer on the pic with the tailgate shut. If so then it could be down to a poor quality repair, strange the rust is central to the 'oversprayed' area?
Unlikely BMW will honour any warranty unless you can prove they repaired it.

It could've, but it also looks as if the bumper is not sitting properly if I zoom up the image.  There have been numerous reports of E70 bumpers coming undone in the centre section.  That could have caused a chip perhaps?

If it is overspray, and BMW didn't do it then you have no chance of warranty.

They took photos today and will send off for a decision
He thinks it should be covered. Paint was about 110 microns around the boot area.

Whilst it was in having brake fluid change they said the drive shaft boot was split and £450 to change.
Happily warranty direct will pick this cost up!

Also a small oil leak which they want £80 to remove trays to investigate - wonder what this could be now..

Ok, so the oil leak is from a failed turbo - wonder how much that will cost?!
Happy I have a warranty now.

ok so this is what it needs according to dealer:
2x turbos
2 x wastegates
intercooler
various pipes and hoses.

Majority picked up by warranty direct except for intercooler and pipes/hoses. Bill to me about £1K.
Bill to warranty company about £3.5K

Seems a lot gone wrong at the same time? Would the intercooler really need doing too?

Only if it had a hole in it, or was full of oil, but then that could be washed out.

Have they said what is actually wrong with the intercooler?  Has to be worth a challenge.... :)
