Doesnt say front or rear, i thought it would be clever enough for that?
But intriguing is that the OBC shows, rear pads in 13000 miles and front pads in 19000 miles.
Confused for sure. Car is still under 38k miles too.

Could have a slightly sticking caliper and the inner pad has worn down a bit quicker and the sensor is on that pad.
NSF and OSR i think have the sensor on the inner pad.

Thanks for the info. A fair point too, but that doesn't tell me why the OBC is in conflict with the message yesterday.

Modern cars!!
Rang my local dealership who said we're not busy today, come and see us, we'll do a key read. This confirmed the i-drive's info of thousands of miles remaining front and rear, before any attention to the brakes. Service guy came out with me to the car, started it up, (keyless) no brake pad warning displayed
Maybe constant keyless use isn't foolproof? Obviously pleased but confused

The sensor is a one time use, so once triggered then that’s that. Might be a poor connection in the plugs that are on the wheel well wall. If there’s a bit of crud in there you might get a random error.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

In my opinion, the pad wear sensors are a total waste of space. Every BMW I've owned I have removed the sensors from the pads and tied them back out of harm's way.
Seriously.......? Eight pads on a vehicle, and only two of them have sensors attached. Whatever is the point? Everyone knows that pads rarely wear evenly, so you've got just a 25% chance that the pad that's worn the most will trigger the warning.
There's absolutely no substitute for a visual inspection every 6k miles, when you change the engine oil & filter.
Rant over.

Mine showed over 40k left on front but inner pad was down to the metal on the side with no sensor ,outer had a lot of meat left , the outers are easy to inspect through the wheel spokes but the inners not so handy .

Purely out of idle interest while stuck in traffic, i went into the i-drive again yesterday, scrolled through and guess what, renew front brake pads in 1800 miles. Car computer suffered a brain fart again,
