Anxiety Day approaching..........

Post by X5Sport » Thu Oct 31, 2024 2:30 pm

Passed today with no advisories. Only did 3,100 miles in the last 12 months. Funny thing is it got flagged for a suspension joint four years ago. Never had it again! Dealer ‘adding value’ or…?

Whilst I was waiting for the car, the sales team were moving a brand new MY2025 M5 around the showroom. I wasn’t allowed to take pictures as the car isn’t launched until Saturday. It looked and sounded the business. I do like the noise of a V8, just cannot afford to run one. They wouldn’t tell me the price either, but then if you have to ask…..you can’t afford it.

I remember that feeling. Oh well, maybe next year.

When I was in my local dealership getting the parts for the MOT repair, I noticed a Mini priced at over £50k! :o

Well, that's how it goes, isn't it. Truly bonkers! I priced a seat side trim this week, only plastic of course. I dont know how it got scuffed. Probably, techicians again and i hadnt noticed, £83 means I'll live with the scuff mark.

Pricing is becoming ludicrous.

The electric Mini is well over £50k, ICE ones somewhat cheaper. The price of EVs made in Europe will need to fall or the Chinese influx will kill their opportunities. There are cheaper European cars but the quality and option list is a bit behind cheaper Chinese cars

There wasn’t a single diesel in the showroom with the only X5 being a 50e (4.4 V8 turbo with electric hybrid drive). Yours for a mere £90k. Even my i4 has risen by £18k in 2 years. Most sales are to fleet/salary sacrifice schemes now. That being said, there are some heavy discounts on offer. Several vehicles had around £10k off…..but were still more than I would/could afford.

It failed. :( ......And it's something I couldn't have seen - a rear spring.
Going back in Monday morning to have the new springs fitted. :)

Over pricing on ordinary cars from Germany is starting to really bite them and China is coming soon and there is going to be a British Leland type bloodbath only this time its Mg is on the up ,most of their cars sold now are Ev's and they are cheap compared with rivals . Volkswagen is in big trouble now and shutting factories in Germany . THe EU's decision to tax them for every non ev sold over the quota to the tune of 15k now seems like madness :headbang:

Finally got a year's ticket. :D
I was going to go the whole hog and fit Bilstein B6 shocks as well, but I couldn't find a reliable UK source that could guarantee delivery in the next two weeks. So, it just had new springs, upper and lower insulator pads, and dust covers.

When I got home, I booked it in for a full transmission service.

19 1/2 year old E46 passed it’s annual check yesterday too. Also treated it to a full service and new brake fluid. £380 at our not-quite-local Indy in Milton Keynes.

I have long held the view, the last great BMW saloons are the E39 & E46. I let my E39 go for my E53. I have often wished i had kept it.

There is no chance of HRH giving up her E46. It was one of the last, a 330Cd convertible. Manual as there was no auto offered (emissions).

The Mk4 navigation system screen is delaminating slowly. Need to get it fixed if I can find someone and the screens are still available. A few members on here did it with their E53s but that was a long time ago. The head unit is MiniDisc rather than cassette. Rare beastie that is too.

If i had your E46, I'd be keeping it too. Hindsight is probably my favourite word. When I bought my E53 i didnt need to sell the E39, it just seemed logical at the time. A mistake for sure, tank like build quality and doors that shut with a reassuring thud not a tinny echio.

I probably ought to have kept this too, a member here bought it.

6-series are now a thing of the past. No longer made as they didn’t sell enough. We looked long and hard at one when they were new out. What stopped us was the really poor rear leg room. It was non existent with a 6’4” driver. Not much better with the E46 though!

It was never a four seater, but that was never a problem for a family of two. The car only became a frustration after i moved home to a single garage property. I really struggled to get out or in the car because of the large doors, so let it go. Super comfy once in it though.
