New Tyres - Bridgestone - fitted

Just had a full set of RFTs fitted to my X to replace the 20" Dunlop Sportmaxx supplied at new.  Went for the Bridgestone in the end as the life of the Dunlops fell far below what I would have expected, and they were cheaper than the Dunlop option.

I only got about 14,000 miles out of the Summer set which is about 10k less than I used to get from the non-RFT Diamaris I used on my E53.  The winter Pirellis Scorpions (RFT 19") are wearing far better too.

Full set £880 fitted (new valves) and balanced.

X5Sport,

Did you consider changing to non-runflats at all, similar to a lot of E70 owners?

Considered, yes, but with the car under warranty and not having had the same 'ride' issues reported by E70 owners I eventually decided to stick with the RFT type.

It may be that because the car has a different suspension set-up with no air springs, OEM fitted sport suspension and the active rear axle system that the ride is different.  The X6 is a different niche car to the X5 and both are about handling rather than ride quality.

We also have a 10 year old 3 series on 18" wheels and M Sport suspension where the tyres are very low profile and have no give either that we're used to the harder ride.  It's what I expect from a car equipped with 'sport' suspension anyway - it's never going to be one to waft along, and certainly not on British roads these days!

There was a sign in the tyre place which I thought was vey apt....

Not a bad price, but terrible mileage.

I am on 14k miles now as well, but my tires probably have about 60% life left in them. They are 19" though.

14k was the norm for me

PVR drives like a pussy so his comparison doesn't count
