Happened a few times now. Engine turns over strongly so battery seems ok but doesn't start. Come back a bit later and it starts straight away. I noticed the soft close doors don't work when this happens which makes we think something electrical that also kills the fuel pump. Got a load of codes on the reader including:
Motor control – 452A,4252, 41f2, 4b90, 49b8
ABS/DSC/Brake D36A,D36B,601D,601E
Instrument cluster A3c7, A54D, A554,
Heating AC - 9C4A
Systems – A06B, E18D, E18F

Fixed. Loose relay in the rear fuse box. Bloody hell. That caused chaos! Ordered a new one.

Nice result, when I read your original post I felt for you. I bet you thought it was going to be an expensive long process to get sorted
Did you suss it out yourself ?
Every time mine bongs at me my heart sinks.

Thanks Horizon. It got worse yesterday as the comfort access failed along with the power tailgate. Googling those codes suggested all sorts of large bills looming. :yikes:
I used the "carly for BMW" android app to read the codes and the volume along with noticeable electrical failures made we think it was something common, maybe an earth or something. Some threads were saying relay for the fuel pump so I nosed about in the rear fuse box and happened to prod the relay in there and noticed the boot light suddenly came on. Currently have a bit of folded paper wedged in there to stop it moving about until a new one arrives.

Quite happy with a £15 bill!
