Power tailgate issues

My power tailgate seems very lazy, pressing the key opens it different amounts each time.

It is set to fully open so that's not the issue.

Thanks,
John.

It's the BMW Russian Roulette tailgate.
Click to open, try to get something out and you never know if you're going to crack your swede open  :))

Still struggling with this  ;)

Any idea's? Power strut?

Can they be serviced or lubricated?

My manual gas struts have given up and need replacing

Is it similar on power tailgates with gas struts failing?

Power tailgates use a screw jack system not gas struts.

Worth checking the wiring in case it is corroded as this might be causing intermittent operation.  Not sure if there is an angle/position sensor which operates on the height which could also have gone faulty.  There is a body control module that runs the system and struts.  Realoem will give you part numbers to search against.

BMW don't repair, only replace.  You could try SGS Engineering to see if they can repair electric struts as well as gas variants.  They do offer refurbished gas units.
