Problem with 'Favourite' buttons

This is about the favourite / shortcut buttons numbered 1-8 below the heater controls. Its on a 2009 35d (CCC not CIC).
So, for one reason or another, I want to programme button 8 as the ipod input (via the usb/aux jack in the armrest), and button 7 as the aux input (the alternate to the USB device in the menu).
Button 8 is fine - select the ipod input, long press on button and all working (can be selected by pressing). Now go to select the aux input, long press on button and it is stored as 'aux'. However, pressing the button to select this input results in 'the function selected is not currently available'.
Can anyone with a similar CCC setup see if the can get a shortcut to aux working via the buttons please?
