My near side lights have stopped working and I believe it is a bulb that iluminates the two rings. How the froook do you get in there
I presume you need to remove the plastic cowling surrounding the light that is bolted onto the wing.
Anyone changed one before and what about the bulbs

I just changed my 2011 MY X6 40d side bulbs to some GP Thunder 7500 ones. 2 minute job for both sides. Bonnet up, lean head in and see the large circular plastic blanking plate with upturned edges at rear of light assembly. Grab hold, twist a quarter turn and off it comes. You will see the bulb holder directly in front of you. Again a quarter turn and it comes out. Do not touch bulb if it is still in workable order as you can keep it to refit later should you change car etc. Small grey plastic clip on bottom of bulb assembly unclips both sides (careful now these are small and easily broken clips - lift them with a fingernail one by one) and pulls out. In true Haynes style, re-assembly is then the opposite of dis-assembly

I can post up pics if you really need them but it's a very simple job requiring no tools at all.

Are they working - in colour terms - and where did you source them from?
I've seen them advertised in the US with postage that was more than the bulbs themselves

Apart from the 'corporate design' cue the main beam projector is indeed a fake (more's the pity!). It's just a hole for the H8 angel eye bulb. Good tip about using a tool though...

Really

what a waste
I always thought the ultimate would have been 4 dipped and 4 main with each of the lenses doing both duties...imagine that as a hack

You an me both. There were a fair few people in the US getting very upset about it. Even my Dealer was surprised. There's a noticeable drop in performance compared to the E53 I had before, or even our E46, both of which had 4 working lamps.

Are they the MTEC superwhite 4350k bulbs? I'd read that at 4350k they would still be quite yellow, how do they seem to you?
