Battery battered

Post by Jalf » Fri Nov 16, 2012 5:43 pm

The 6 has always been a bit weak when it comes to its battery, losing charge if its left unlocked and recently it's been even worse.
I put the sudden drain down to the car looking for its fog lights but its been recoded now so that can't be a problem, I parked the car today and was on the Bluetooth when I turned the engine off and within 3 seconds it came up with battery charge very low, clearly it's new battery time.

What is the general consensus on replacement batteries, who makes the best/strongest, and where the hell is it?!

hi dude it should be in the boot. (if its like the x5 tbh I havent looked for it in the x6 yet)

Id try some where like euro car parts and get a Bosch battery should be up to the job.  Get the right amp, if you give them you reg number they should be able to tell you what amp you need.  There doing 25 percent off batteries IIRC :-)

Remember that a new battery needs pairing to the car.  It's under the black cover, left side rear of the boot.  Lift the floor hatch and it's only a few screws to remove the cover.

Does that do away with the need for leads? Electricity via Bluetooth!  :))

The new on board monitoring systems monitor the battery performance and so the battery has to be 'paired' or 'registered' as having been replaced with the car.  It's the same with pretty much all new BMW designs since the late noughties.  I guess it's similar tech to that used in a lot of battery powered devices these days.  My laptop and Canon cameras have all their batteries 'registered'.  Seems OTT, but there must be some value in it or it wouldn't be built in.

You need a diagnostic kit to do it as it appears it's not an iDrive function... :cry1:
