My local indy recommended the 3.0i manual for minimal faults too.  If you go auto, get a facelift.  More power and a 6 speed box instead of 5. Pretty sure you're looking right at it - I made that mistake also. the plug with that 5 wires is my guess. I was looking for the side with all the cooling pins on it - that bit is tucked into a hole in your air blower system - to aid cooling it I assume.  You're looking for the back of it with the 5...

I coded my display to show aux heating and ventilation - I then had a nightmare trying to undo it as it prevented my system from working as it was then looking for factory fitted changeover valves that were not there.  Other people claim to have done this with success.  IMO it is pointless coding it...

You could also try a motor factor for a new sensor.

They have recently been introduced at a fraction of the price of main dealers.
