Won't Start

At least it was a cheapish fix. I suppose being a copper braid then over time it will corrode away. It’s certainly common if you live anywhere near salt water. That does all sorts of nasties to pretty much any car type (except fibreglass probably).

Heated mirrors

Check fuse F22 in the front power distribution (fuse) box. It should be a 7.5A according to the wiring diagram. If the mirrors still move then the issue is elsewhere. Heater control is via the Body Domain controller via a green/yellow wire. Module is behind the drivers side footwell side trim kick ...

Glow plug issue

When you changed the controller, who’s is it? Bosch glow plugs don’t play nicely with certain other brands such as BERU and possibly Hitachi. BMW specifically state not to use Bosch with BERU in the last Realoem update for later N57 engines. No reference for M57 engines having the same issue. Ge ...

You’re probably looking for something such as this. https://xtrons.com/bmw-x1-e84-android-10-octa-core-2gb-ram-32gb-rom-qeb10x1ci I would make contact with them as the site indicates keeping the CIC system and your car has none of that fitted. I can’t offer any view on how this kit will integrate whe ...

Many BMWs scrub the inner tread area. It was really common on the E53 rear. I run my E71 at slightly above what the plate says and the wear is even. Has a 4-wheel laser alignment done as recommended on here, and the rears were out. They often come from the factory that way, as in towards one end of ...

Hello and welcome. Given your car is the top version, I’m surprised that kit isn’t already installed. Has yours not got any form of navigation system? The idrive controller is simply the interface into the CIC (Car Infotainment Computer) system and if not fitted then you need all of that, the wiring ...

If you’re upgrading the headlights to Xenon then you’ll need OEM lamp units approved for HID lighting. MOT rules have been changed so that just adding the bulbs & ballasts is an MOT fail.

Sounds like rear bushings need looking at. Quite common on a 20+ year old E53.

From memory, I don’t think there’s an issue with fogs at all. I believe they just have to work if fitted. The challenge is for the main headlights. Those are the ones MOT Testers now have to look more closely at.

You may want to source a copy of the BMW Technical Instruction System (TIS) manual from on line auctions as there’s no UK version of a ‘Haynes Manual’. There is a US published manual - the Bentley Manual - but only covers LHD models. A lot will depend upon whether you want to replace the air suspe ...

They’re making them cheap because of Chinese government subsidies so giving an unfair advantage. That is against trade rules so tariffs are being applied to ‘level’ the field. Some Chinese models won’t meet EU or Worldwide safety standard (hence not being sold here) and those also see increased batte ...

What is the battery state? The system has a ‘no start’ on the remote side if the vehicle battery or fuel supply is low. It’s to ensure there’s enough energy to start the dar.

A lot will depend upon whether Philips/Osram have gained type approval (the correct ‘E’ marking) for normal use rather than for ‘show’ use.

I agree. The ‘luxury’ tax threshold is still set at £40k (inc options) when new. Been at that level for years. Needs reviewing as many cars now exceed that amount.
