No, the Witter one is more like a conventional key.
The one pictured above is also the same design used on the Land Rover / Range Rover detachable towbars.

Re: Detachable towbar
What make is is?
I have a Witter detachable, which I thought didn't have a key when I first bought the car a couple of years ago. There was a small code on the silver portion of the lock where the key enters. I Witter a call and gave them the number; they were happy to send one out in the post ...

Re: Car Won't Start After Battery Change, Now in "Trans Fail Safe" ; 4.4 E53
That's the confusing thing with the whole scenario. The engine starts fine if I put 12V direct to the starter and hence why I was hoping that it's a power supply issue from the ignition switch; which others on the forum have seemed to suffer from.

Brand new Febi ignition switch fitted with great anticipation ...........
Still nothing :(
Is there a starter relay on the 4.4 E53 ??
Just trying the easier less expensive alternatives before attacking the starter motor. Can't understand why it would be the starter though, as it starts with a 12V ...

Thanks paddythemac,
There's no clunk or click down at the starter motor/solenoid.
I've left it a couple of days due to work/weather/frustration getting in the way.
One of the other forum members has said that if it's a key issue, the starter would still crank, but the car would not fire up.

Re: E53 X5 4.4 Won't Start After Battery Change
Was also thinking; could it possibly be something to do with the key? Have read endless posts trying to work this out and have read posts talking about the key battery charging whilst in the ignition barrel.
If the key hasn't been in the ignition for months, could this kill the key off ?

Car Won't Start After Battery Change, Now in "Trans Fail Safe" ; 4.4 E53
Sorry; posted this in the E53 "General" area at first.
My E53 4.4 has been sat on the drive for a couple of months whilst I had it on ramps changing all the suspension bushes and bearings etc slow time.
The battery wasn't the best and had died during the time the car had not been in use.

Re: E53 X5 4.4 Won't Start After Battery Change
Hi,
Thanks for that Horizon. It's neither of the two large terminals; Permanent 12V supply to the starter, or the cable connector directly vertically above it going to the starter body. Instead, I am having to connect a 12v feed to the trigger terminal (smallest outboard terminal).

Re: How to tell Heated Seats ????
Thanks Bomber,
I've haven't got my car here to have a look and compare at the minute, as its in the garage being LPGed, but;
Does that mean there will be two connectors (one for the memory function and one for the heater element) or just one which is different to just the memory function?
Mine ...

How to tell Heated Seats ????
As a newbie, one of the first mod's I'm hoping to carry out is to change my interior for heated seats.
I'm hoping to get the seats from a breakers, but is there any obvious visual signs by looking at a set of removed seats, as to whether they are heated or non-heated seats?

Re: Newbie "SUSPENSION INACT" Issues
Thanks for the info guys.
Currently sat at an Indie garage with Autologic scanner.
There are NO fault codes stored, even though the warning light was on?
They are going to try a "level reset" to calibrate it back to position and see what happens
