Hi.  I am getting Black exhaust smoke under hard acceleration.  Can you clarify what you had done to resolve it?
Thanks.

Re: Has anyone actually ever fixed the steering wheel judder when braking?

Had the same.  As per above, could be down to one or more of a variety of things. In my case it was tyres!  I didn't set out to resolve the issue, but merely had new tyres fitted.  From that point on the vibration disappeared! PS: I only got the steering wheel shudder When slowing to say 50/60 - a g...

Re: Coding a battery to X5 E53 ???

I have a Dec 2005 "55" plate E53.  No coding required when changing a battery - I have done this twice during the life of the vehicle with no issues.

Re: The LURCH

Dec 2005 3.0D Sport Auto. Had the lurch since I have owned the car - 8 years now.  Not particularly noticeable and no passenger has even once commented on it.  It seems fairly infrequent these days. Over the years I have tended to put the car in Neutral when coming to a standstill.  This removes the...

Re: 4 x 255/55/18 Michelin Lattitude Tour HP 5-6mm £150 or nearest offer

Hi,
are these 18" not 19"?

Also, I thought the X5 had staggered front and rear tyres, thus a different width front vs. rear, i.e. 255 & 285 respectively?

Re: E53/2001 4.4 sport with 4.6 additions.

Wow.  Only 80k in almost 15 years.

I am also an 8 year veteran of an E53.  Still not sure what I would go for next.  You sapphire?!

£4k for all that kit?  It really makes you wonder how low these things can go!

GLWTS.

End of an era.....

Re: x5 or RRS

To me today, the RRS and the X5 are in a different class.  The RRS is a level above.  The RR two levels above!  The Range Rover badge carries a level of credibility, heritage and brand snobbery that the X5 cannot match.  Not helped by the fact that I feel most modern day BMW's are fugly and rather d...

Cheers Sanj.  Another meet one day would be good for nostalgia!  I think it's been 6+ years now!

PS: dubwud has now purchased his E53 ( see above)!

Re: New buyer E53.

Seats mounted in the headrest are not standard-  Aftermarket only.  Mine were in when I purchased, but it's a pretty easy and cheap retrofit.  I think there are several examples on here via a search. You can either buy the headrests with screens already integrated (eBay) and wire it up - that way yo...

Re: New buyer E53.

Sounds great!  I have had an E53 3.0D Sport since 2008.  Car is Dec 2005, so was 2.5 years old when I picked it up and still under warranty.  I had some great fixes covered by BMW including a new amp (speaker problem!), new steering wheel facia, complete reupholster of the drivers seat (bolster worn...

Re: Shudder when braking at speeds over 40-50mph

I experienced this same problem (steering shudder @50-60mph) for quite some time.  On replacing the front tyres (due to outer wear) the problem completely disappeared. Obviously, this might not be the case for yourself and you may require the maintenance methods described above, but do check that th...

Re: Newbie e53 x5

WELCOME!

That's the most recent (latest) E53 I have seen - on an 07.  It must be one of the last off the line in Spartanburg as E70 production started in Sep 2006, so I guess there was parallel production for a period prior to cut-over.

Plus, less than 50k.  Nice.

Enjoy.

Re: Child seats

Its a squeeze, but you can even fit 3 fullsize child seats into the rear of an E53.  Therefore 3 boosters should be no issue.  See a few examples http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?s=14d55b9db8882e53c59d8158bc60897c&t=179587&page=2 The E53 obviously has 3 full size seatbelts, including t...
