Re: mirror part question
Hi Smee I am new to all things BMW having only recently bought my X5 but I am sure I have read somewhere that they all came standard with folding mirrors. The problem with the mirrors no longer folding is down to a little microswitch failing. Neither of my mirrors fold and I could have made the repa...

Re: mirror part question
Hi Smee does your mirror still adjust ok? I have recently had my mirror in bits to repair it and found that the gears inside are very robust. The issue with mine was that the cast alloy housing that contains the motor and gears and secures the actual mirror to the main body had failed completely but...

Remote key fobs
The central locking has not worked on my wagon since I got it and having spent some time googling the issue I came to the conclusion the batteries were no longer holding a charge and would need replacing. As such I decided to open one of the fobs with the help of a scalpel. It was then that I discov...

Hello and welcome
One thing I will recommend, is get the auto gearbox serviced! These auto boxes benefit from a oil & filter change! They are very expensive to fix if it goes wrong!
[/quote]
Thanks for the sound advice Andym3 I will get it sorted.

Re: Navigation Identification
Hi Richard I have no desire to brick my navigation system so will not be attempting anything foolish. Besides it would appear I am running V32 already so there is nothing to upgrade to as far as I can see. I suppose there are customised firmware images out there if you want to add POI's, night colou...

Re: Navigation Identification
Thanks guys, I will take a look at the info when I get home tonight. I fully understand the situation with regard to genuine and original map disks and wouldn't expect anyone to do or say anything to cause issues for themselves or this forum. Having said that am I correct in thinking that firmware u...

What Exactly is Intravee?
It looks to me to be an interface to allow you to swap out the standard BMW CD player for a particular Alpine unit but I also see posts about people updating the firmware version and unlocking many interesting features. Is intravee more than an audio upgrade and do I need it in my life? I do like m...

Re: Navigation Identification
Hi Sanj,
How can I tell what firmware version I am on? I have not seen anything that refers to V31, V32 or anything similar.

Navigation Identification
I am trying to figure out what version of navigation system I have in my E53 and need some input from the knowledgeable ones (you lot). 1) How do you figure out what firmware version is running, I cannot see anything referring to V31, V32 etc? 2) As I have a DVD system can I assume I have a Mk4 syst...

Re: Door Mirror Fell Off
Just found and ordered this repair kit from Germany. In the EU and a lot cheaper than the $68US (plus custom charge) from the company in Taiwan. http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.de%2Fitm%2FBMW-X5-E53-REPAR...

Re: Door Mirror Fell Off
Well I took the mirror apart completely today and can now see that the repair kit on ebay will not help with the issue I have. The die cast aluminium housing that contains the motor and gears and secures the mirror to the arm is in two parts as you can see from the pictures. http://i271.photobucket....

Re: Door Mirror Fell Off
Thanks Steve I must admit I did see this kit and thought the metal cylindrical item was a small cover for the motor. So if I understand you correctly this item is actually a mount to replace the broken diecast original depicted in my picture? If so I would like to meet you and buy you lots of beers ...
