The Thule rack I have at the moment hinges forward to allow access to the boot, I belief from reading a couple of the American forums, that the towing eye mounted BMW rack has a similar arrangement/function.

Yeah did see that one, but on further investigation, they are in Australia hence the £50 postage charge and no doubt a 3 week wait.

Hi Sid Thanks for your reply, my only issue with roof mounts are that we plan to use the X5 to travel through the Chunnel 2 or 3 times a year, they charge extra for roof mounted bikes, and you have to go in with the lorries, so I wanted to avoid it if I can. Also not sure how well it will work with ...
