Hey there all, one happy Northerner here! Diesel injector replacement went OK, cured the lumpy idle, car runs better and to cap it off, it passed the MoT this morning with no advisories or sucking of teeth from the tester!!!
Thanks in order to all for their tips and support, so I'll pass on a few ...

Re: Advice needed - diesel injector tool?
Just had a thought steamyrotter - when you did yours, did you take each one out without taking off the electrical connector or not? And what kind of "tap" did you give it? A gentle one to the side, or the kind the missus gives me every time I tell her the car needs a bit of work doing.. (i.e. a good ...

Re: Advice needed - diesel injector tool?
Ha yep, I've seen some of them too, very scary and dubious methods used in some cases!! I thought I'd see fit any other plucky E53 owners had had THAT kind of experience & knew of the best tool to use to avoid it..? There's not much out there about removal from E53 engines, so if I were an optimist ...

Advice needed - diesel injector tool?
Hi all, bit of general advice needed on 3.0 (Bosch?) diesel injector removal. Car is running like a cement mixer at the moment, no.6 injector appears to have gone, a diagnostic & compression test seems to make it almost certain, so it has to come out! The "how to" posted here gives some pics of the ...

Re: Car Won't Start After Battery Change, Now in "Trans Fail Safe" ; 4.4 E53
I know what you mean, they're hard to love at times.. :( it does seem then like an electrical problem, tho.. The obvious thing would be to check connections, specially earths around the starter working backwards. Other than that, there is a starter relay, I'm not sure where but try under the bonnet ...

Re: Car Won't Start After Battery Change, Now in "Trans Fail Safe" ; 4.4 E53
Sorry you're still having problems and its probably gone past me now, as I'm not so good with the electricals. The only other thing I remember doing is turning the engine by hand, daft as it sounds, but bear with me as it worked..

Re: Car Won't Start After Battery Change, Now in "Trans Fail Safe" ; 4.4 E53
It may be the starter motor itself then? As i said, mine failed without warning, so it could be the issue. There a few threads on here about testing it if you have a meter, I've not done that. Mine exploded (mechanically), so I had no problem identifying the fault.. :-[ Most factors do an exchange ...

Re: Car Won't Start After Battery Change, Now in "Trans Fail Safe" ; 4.4 E53
I recently had battery problems (amongst others) and you could try turning the steering wheel full lock to full lock a couple of times after starting the car, that should reset all the dash lights & trans failsafe warnings etc, assuming there are no related problems of course.

Re: Turbo gone, mechanical noise from engine!
Price was for the turbo only, I had to do it myself, though a more able mate helped me out a lot tbh.. ;) It's an exchange price, so you buy a recon one from him at £359 and give him your old busted one after the job is done, he then gives you £100 back.

Re: Turbo gone, mechanical noise from engine!
Hi All, sorry for the delay in replying, I've been away for a while, but I promised an update for those who're interested - so if it helps someone else, fair enough. After much cursing and struggling, we fitted a recon turbo. If you take your time and clean everything pathologically, it's not too ...

Re: Turbo gone, mechanical noise from engine!
Update Fri pm, didnt get on it til late today so I've not done much, but a battery charge got it going, there's still a clattering noise which sounds like the starter has decided to put in for early retirement, so you're probably right with that - it looks like it's going to be a long, dirty weekend ...

Hey X5Sport, thanks for the ideas, nice to know there are knowledgeable people out there prepared to help - much appreciated! :)
