No check engine light on E53 3.0d
Even if the handbrake cable needs replacing OEM is £40 and after market is £20. A pair of backplates are £33. Having done both on the driveway with a jack it not rocket science and in a workshop with a lift would be piss easy.

No check engine light on E53 3.0d
I’d say the little pin are missing that hold the shoes in place because the back plate has rusted and they can’t do their job. To renew the backplate properly they need to remove the hub which means disconnecting the drive shaft and well a whole mountain of work which will probably show up/create ot...

E53 power folding mirrors.. a bit of help required
IMG_1314.jpeg IMG_1315.jpeg The first picture shows the grey and black plugs. They do plug into each other. The grey plug also plugs into the puddle light. The wires from the grey plug go to the black plug with 4 wires attached and that plugs into the mirror switch. The second picture shows the mic...

E53 power folding mirrors.. a bit of help required
Think that’s for the puddle light, certainly has nothing to do with folding problem. More than likely it’s the micro switch slightly misaligned. If they have been folding then the motors are probably ok. I have a pair in the garage and I’ll take a picture tomorrow of the micro switch you need to loo...

I renewed mine in February at £360 at 5k miles and a whole raft of mods. Up graded brakes/cold air intake/exhaust/wheels/lpg/sound system. Maybe I just got lucky. It was with LV. I’ve been been with then quite a few years but always try elsewhere before renewing. Some of the quotes from elsewhere ar...

Opinions on dash removal
Very impressive, certainly deserves more than "a" beer. You’ve made that sound easier than it looks. Ever since I got mine it’s had a nut inside that big bar that runs across the vehicle and if I go round a corner with a bit of enthusiasm it rattles to the other side, that the wife’s marke...

If you do remove the dash do keep us posted as to how difficult it is. Although my fan seems to be behaving itself I m sure I’ll have this problem down the road.

Don’t want to put a spanner in the works but I have removed the steering wheel air bag and door bags several times and never disconnected the battery mainly because it is under the LPG tank and therefore a pita. Not recommending it, just saying.

E53 X5 metal screeching sound (from suspension/rack) when I turn the steering wheel right.
Also check all the auxiliary belt tensioners, perhaps remove the belts and see if the noise goes away

Engine Failsafe prog..
You need a decent code reader so you can tell them what you need fixed as they will just throw parts at it and give you a load of bs as to why it costs so much. Have you had any previous work done like timing chains or vanos, a tooth out or vanos not reset properly will give engine failsafe as will ...

Thought I’d put up a few pics of the problems. IMG_0337.jpeg IMG_0340.jpeg IMG_0343.jpeg I drilled and tapped and was going to fabricate something but have decided to go to an alloy welder on Monday and see if they could weld a tab on. The second pic shows that the little tabs that the eccentric was...
