Switch cleaner will sort the mode button out.
Hot air gun on the black plastic and it will peel back then a squirt of cleaner and play around with the little button.
Warm it again and stick it back down.
Not sure if it will fix the red light but nothing to lose.

I still look-in every morning but not tinkering that much any more just the odd oil/filter sort of thing.
I did the 9" touch screen job but only as mine came with a win ce copy of the original and it was playing up.
Yes the screen would drive you mad with dust and finger marks lol.

2010 E70 X5 3.0d - 'Chuffin' Injector
Could well be a dodgy recon injector.
Personally i won't buy from Euro for the same reason had a few dodgy parts from them.
Ok they swapped them but what a pain you don't need changing the thing twice.
But could be wrong with the injector.

The eBay ones melt.
My sister got one and my nephew fitted it and it did work for about 5 minutes then stopped.
She then bought a used genuine one from eBay and that one is still working 7 years later.

I gave up looking after 5 years lol.
Mine is 22 years old but still kicks in when it's cold enough.
Never understood why it stinks but it works that's all that matters.

HELP!!!
I would have said reject the car but i think you might have had it too long now. Think your best bet is to take it to a local if you have one BMW independent garage as it needs somebody that knows what they are doing. Only problem there is you will have to foot the bill but you could ask the seller ...
