Re: Fitting a Westfalia Detachable Towbar & Dedicated Electric

I've just bought myself a new trailer and it comes with LED lights which is causing issues when using the brakes or indicators as the LEDs require much less power than conventional bulbs.

Has anyone fitted resistors to the towing electrics to stop this?

BMW Warranty

I have a 55 plate X5 4.8 and I was thinking about taking out the BMW warranty befoer it ticks over 60000 miles. They're looking for just under £100 per month with a £250 excess which doesn't seem too bad. But I was wondering what they are like for claiming. Do people have issues when claiming for is...

Re: E53 X5 4.8 Air Suspension

The alternator is being changed. They spotted overvoltage errors on a few of the modules (DSC/ABS) so I'm hoping it is just the alternator.

Re: E53 X5 4.8 Air Suspension

I thought it might be the battery itself but when I check the voltage directly from the boot it's fine, checking it via the dash or bonnet terminals has a drop. I assumed this was normal but hopefully I'll find out soon.

Re: E53 X5 4.8 Air Suspension

It seems there is definitely an electrical gremlin in the works! Driving back a few days ago the gearbox went in to safe mode. Once at home I turned it off and back on, everything was back to normal. Yesterday I was driving and ABS/TPMS/4x4/DSC lights all came on and the radio kept cutting in and ou...

Re: E53 X5 4.8 Air Suspension

Thanks. I've fitted a new battery as it was one of the first things I thought it might be with a 5+ year old battery. It seems to have made no difference. Measuring the voltage from the terminals under the bonnet gives a different reading to one from the battery terminals in the boot. The dashboard ...

Re: Front air suspension - bag change... or not...

Whatever you do, stay clear of Aerosus. I've just fitted 4 new bags all round, 1 was faulty from the start and another has lasted 100 miles. I know quite a few people recommend them but I'm buying Arnott ones now and hoping they're better quality.

E53 Mud flaps

Does anyone know where I can get a set of mud flaps/guards? Ideally just the rears but a set of 4 would do.

I can only find the fronts with everywhere saying the rears are discontinued/out of stock.

It's for a 4.8 if they're variant specific.

Thanks!

Re: E53 X5 4.8 Air Suspension

Removed the new strut and airbag, separated the bag from strut and reattached in case there was a sealing issue. Refitted but same problem persisted. Refitted the original strut and airbag that has a slow leak in it, and that inflated fine. Looks like the new bag/strut must have an issue. Back it go...

E53 X5 4.8 Air Suspension

Hi, I started getting the "Self-Level Suspension Inactive" message a few weeks ago on my car so decided to try the compressor repair kit as my symptoms sound familiar to those I've read online. I fitted the repair kit but the problem persisted. I spoke to the guy that makes the repair kits...

Re: Towbar

I recently fitted a Westfalia detachable tow bar. If you're talking about the thread with all the photos showing the installation process, I spent some time getting the photos uploaded again and posted a reply in the thread.

How much for 4.8? Are they straight forward to fit?
