Re: X5 heating fan stays at low speed and drivers door central locking fails

Do the other doors open with central locking? It's just the drivers door that doesn't work?

The GM3 module in the glove compartment, can fail with age leading to problems opening all the doors...

Tailgate usually still works.

Re: Got some engine error codes need help with

Ok, so car drove to York and back from Edinburgh. My first real trip, only called AA once. Ran out of fuel with 27 miles range left ha ha!! Won't trust that again... Was attempting to get the most out of the Catcleaner. It's running ok provided you don't press beyond halfway on the throttle. Thinkin...

Re: BMW X5 E53 2005 4.4 DME Combustion error - rough idling

Watched a YouTube last night, throttle body gasket could be at fault? The dude sprayed brake cleaner onto all vacuum hoses. When he sprayed the throttle body gasket, change of engine note which demonstrated this is where the fault lies?

Re: Got some engine error codes need help with

Ran the CAT cleaner through. Car went 100 miles without engine light coming on, but was driving carefully. Achieved 11.5l/100km or 24.5 mpg. Not bad. But on re-fill and more moderate acceleration stuttering back again and engine light, presumably with the same codes. Need to check if fuel filter was...

Re: Got some engine error codes need help with

Thanks again Horizon Both the VANOS and the solenoid on that side are new! still getting fault codes. I also think the camshaft sensor was changed on bank 1. Risking a long drive tomorrow 160 miles, to put some miles on it. Hoping the cat cleaner helps. Got injector cleaner for the next fill-up. Not...

Got some engine error codes need help with

Hi folks New to X5 world. Got a 2001 E53 4.4i. 124000 miles. I could do with some help. Had a lot of work done already, getting the car back on the road after a long lay-up. 3-4 Years. Work already completed, includes time chains and guide rails, new Vanos cylinders 1-4 and solenoid. Discs and pads ...

Re: injectors might need cleaning?

well that's interesting, I wonder could that be why there is a smell of exhaust coming into the car when it chokes...

and I intend on getting a reader. is the 1.4.0 the one to go for? Got 2 e46's as well...

I suspect the fuel filter was changed with all the work that's been done..

Re: injectors might need cleaning?

Did you get to the bottom of your issue? I have what appears to be a  mis-fire at higher power 3500-4000 rpm where the car stops accelerating seems like it's choking but won't give anymore revs. Reading this post made me wonder if its torque converter. New car to me 2001 X5 4.4i lots of problems, ti...

Re: Just joined the X5 club. Not sure if a wise choice!

Ok, car back on the road, with a new battery plus a re-conditioned alternator.

Next issue is finding out what's causing the mis-fire, under hard acceleration, car is choking at 4000rpm...

Think the mechanic said it was throwing up an error code for cam position sensor?

Re: Just joined the X5 club. Not sure if a wise choice!

Will do, going to order a multi-meter this weekend. I have a CTEK condition charger for the E46's, in winter they need topped up from time to time. Pretty sure the battery is finished, the local indies can't get a charge into it either. But still suspicious of the alternator, has anyone replaced the...

Re: Just joined the X5 club. Not sure if a wise choice!

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm pretty sure the battery is knackered, two chargers have failed to make any difference. I recently put a new battery into my '99 323, the old battery works but was a little tired, so put it in the X5 to move it, but still have the battery light on. Double failure!! Wh...

Re: Just joined the X5 club. Not sure if a wise choice!

I believe some petrol motors had it, mine has aux vent for sure not about aux heat that was an expensive option. The car is back at the garage getting the alternator checked, will check it on its return. Hopefully not another 3 years! Thanks for the info regarding the air suspension, on a bit of a v...
