Access from engine compartment to cabin

I am fitting a few extras to my E53 4.4 and was looking for easy access (if easy actually does exist) from the engine compartment to the cabin. I will be fitting a CB radio and lightbar so will be having the antenna coax and switching wire for the relay.

Re: LED Light Bar

Thought I had better revisit this thread and give some more info. I was talking to a guy in Toowoomba today (170k North of home and the closest major city) he has an X5 that is almost identical to mine and had a large 3 row LED lightbar across the front. I asked about it and if it caused the problem...

Re: Position of EWS module in an 2004 E53 4.4

I found it and only after using a mirror and torch. It is on the right up high behind the metal plate against the A pillar about on the same level as the light switch. It is held in by 2 selftaping screws with an 8mm head. It's not easy to get at but I suppose that is by design. I shall post a pictu...

Re: Position of EWS module in an 2004 E53 4.4

I was getting a bit frazzled today getting all the bits back under the steering column so I decided to fix the left front door handle and so didn't get any further in the search for the holy grail. I only put the glove box back in about 3 days ago so I have had lots of practice with that, don't reca...

Re: Position of EWS module in an 2004 E53 4.4

With blow torch close by I removed the plastic trim in the drivers footwell and there is absolutely nothing there bar the wiring for the gong and OBDII port.
I shall endeavour to keep the thread up to date regarding the search unless I get carted off in a rubber truck.

Thanks Alan I shall attack it tomorrow with renewed vigor, well all that I can muster anyhow. But then again attacking it with an axe did come to mind.

Position of EWS module in an 2004 E53 4.4

I have tried the next to useless search function and it just returns nothing. I am trying to find the EWS Module in my 2004 E53 4.4. I removed the panel under the steering column and found as much as the search engine found. Can someone please tell me where the heck to find the thing before I set it...

Re: N62 4.4l Cylinder head/Cam cover Cap Nuts

Well I wont leave the thread hanging I found the problem. On the inside there are 3 small c shaped plastic bits screwed to the cover (they are not even given a part number so must be part of the cover) which are there I presume to help guide the cover into the correct position and they were hanging ...

Just had a look around and that is the M62. The N62 is a very different critter.

N62 4.4l Cylinder head/Cam cover Cap Nuts

Well here I am again with a real weirdo of a problem. When I dismantled the heads I didn't notice that 8 of the 16 Cap Nuts that hold the cover on were about 3mm shorter. Real OEM doesn't specify the length of these nuts only thay there are 2 types but that refers to the 5mm thread in the top of the...

I have just had this confirmed on the Bimmerforums you just tighten the bolt to the specified torque and all should be OK and if you have two of them keep them crossed.

Re: New Transmission £9698

Take the car to an independent a BMW dealer will just rip you off. Here in Australia to reco a ZF26 would cost around $2000 plus installation time so around $3000 total in UK pounds no more than 2000 possibly a bit more as extra tax might come into the equation.
