Re: Battery kill switch

Hey Lez long time indeed.

Can you give me more details about how and where you got that switch?  I'll take a stab at saying you removed the negative extended to run to the switch and that runs back to the terminal, is it that simple?

Re: Battery kill switch

@jaynana - hmmm that might actually be closer  ;) OK so 2 issues here Charging - Done some reconfigured in the drive potentially I could get extension down to 11m or maybe even 7m, can I assume either of those would work?  Otherwise I can install a permanent outdoor socket very close to the car, but...

Re: Battery kill switch

[quote="X5Sport"] It will be fine.  It’s the current rating that matters at this voltage and you won’t be putting enough through it to worry.  Most chargers run at 10A or less and that cable is rated at 27A. Resistance is the most likely challenge you need to overcome on a 15m run.  The ch...

Re: Battery kill switch

I'd be happy to get 5 years if I could count on the car start with infrequent usage.  Liking the lifetime, but I am thinking if AGM is better technology for holding charge, and handles low discharge and top-ups battery, then that may be a better route.  You folks aren't helping me decide. Anyone hav...

Re: Battery kill switch

Kinda off topic but on the thought of changing battery and leaving my bad luck with Bosch S5's. I started thinking AGM battery Duracell AGM about £180 5 year warranty, then I came across this Halfords lifetime battery non AGM http://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs-blades-batteries/car-batteries/yuas...

Re: Battery kill switch

Damn smoke alarm went mental at crazy AM in the morning, so had lots of thinking time. If extending the ctek after the block may be an issue, why not just extend the wire before the ctek on the normal power cord as thats guaranteed to work and I only need cable and connectors? FYI - Disconnecting th...

Re: Battery kill switch

My car is parked a little further, guessing I will be needing around 15m of extension, so buying 1 comfort extension and some 2 core seems so better option. Query I have some : core armour cable left from previous project, can I use this? Assuming even though it's 12v running tge cable user should n...

Re: Battery kill switch

God damn, your like the x5drivers replacement Sanj. Loving this idea now just need to get Sanj round to install  :) Query the Indian in me wants to know how much power am I using keeping this thing on 24x7? Although this would be so ultra convenient that I'd probably plug in every 2 weeks or day bef...

Re: Battery kill switch

[quote="jaynana"] it says rated amperage 100A. the knowledgeable man has said 220A in the thread, to be on teh safe side with the starter, so I'd say no unfortunately :'( solar panel is a good idea, its only a trickle charge u need just like the CTEK (I'd rather go through the cigarette li...

Re: Battery kill switch

[quote="jaynana"] [quote="X5Sport"] The kill switch would need to support at least 220A to give a margin of safety with the starter. What about a good quality caravan solar cell charger?  I do mean a decent one though. Glad to see you are still around, though this might bring San...

Re: Battery kill switch

[quote="jaynana"] Look who’s still around ;) Should work I guess but the reviews aren't all that convincing. How about keeping the car on a trickle charger instead - isn't that the more elegant solution. U can have a CTEK plug in the front grill or some place easily accessible? I used to c...

Re: Battery kill switch

Very quick search saw AA solar charger which plugs into ODB socket, pretty tidy solution but not sure the panel is big enough to do very much. Is this the type you mean?

Think caravan ones come with watt rating, any pointers on what would be good?

How useful would these be in our poor light winters.

Re: Battery kill switch

Yeah still going strong.

I have a ctek and plug installed but don't want to keep a power cord outside all the time.
