I’m sure I read only the other day about this. Something to do with front vanos covers being slightly too high due to new gaskets.
It’s on here - a write up on doing a chain job on a 4.6. Have a search.

Re: Timing chain guides
I paid £1900 to have mine done after they broke.. 2 year warranty with that too. I thought about DIY but at that time I didn't have a spare vehicle or time (or the motivation..).
I didn't know it was a weak point until too late.

Re: 4.8 expert required..
It's still on my mind..
Like I said, it drives well with no knocking or rattles. Everything works but the ac wasn't cold and I forgot to check the piano roof.. I may go back again![🤔](//cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/twitter/twemoji@latest/assets/svg/1f914.svg)

Re: Journey
Our Range Rover sport has an LPG conversion and there are two lpg garages within 10 miles. One is 74.9p litre and the other is Morrisons at 54.9p litre.. When I fill up that's nearly £20 cheaper so it does circa 290 miles (urban) for about £48. Thats not bad for a 400bhp SUV. As for my X5 I've done ...

Re: 4.8 expert required..
Right. I'm out.. I spoke to an expert on BMWs and the advice is to stay well away. The noise is probably camshaft journal wear/ oil starvation he recons and will lead to catastrophic engine failure very soon. He says I would be lucky to get it home.. To that end I am allowing someone else to have it...

Re: 4.8 expert required..
I don't know yet. I'm going to call a bmw specialist by me tomorrow to get opinions and worst case scenario cost of repair as I won't have time myself. Would you say 3K is cheap enough? Then say for example 1k for repair so it's not too bad at circa £4000. Maybe plus a bit. Also it has the internal ...

Re: 4.8 expert required..
The noise wasn't at the back it was at the front of the engine on the right as viewed from in front of the car. It maybe a valve but that head would need to come apart anyway so there is a hefty bill straight away. I'm not disclosing location yet as I may have it and I know I'm the only person to se...

Re: 4.8 expert required..
Well it could be very cheap if I can find out what the rattle is... I’m tempted if I know I can fix it.

4.8 expert required..
I’ve been to view an 04 E53 4.8 today. It was relatively nearby and keenly priced so I thought what the hell. Anyway, overall condition was ok but the engine, looking from the front, had quite a rattle on the right bank. I thought it may be a valve tapping but not sure. It was fairly loud but the ca...

Reverse camera
I fancy installing a wireless reversing camera on my E53 and L320. The X5 has the old non wide screen unit but does have TV functionality so I assume a camera will work on that? The Range rover screen is a bigger one so that's OK. What about wireless - anyone used one? Save's the agro of feeding cab...

Re: Door problem
Yep that's the method. I had to do my driver door twice a few years ago and I still keep the 'tool' in the glove box just in case.
