Advice on engine failure..
No it's not my X5.. We recently bought an Audi Q7 4.2tdi for the wife from a dealer. It's still under warranty but I fancied picking the brains on here. All driving fine no problem until yesterday when I parked on the drive and I noticed oil coming from both tailpipes.. Not good. Upon lifting off th...

And the black plastic bit I found is part of the ashtray so that solved that mystery.

Replace heater blower motor
I'm 56 yrs old now and it was OK for me. It's not a job I would relish in the future that's for sure but as a learning curve it's brilliant.
It's a hobby for me so that's OK.

Replace heater blower motor
Right.. Firstly this is not for the faint hearted. Not a hard job but tricky and methodicle. My blower motor was worn out so a new one was required. You can test it by using a stick in the FSU void to tap the fins to see if it gets going. Space is a must. All 4 doors need to be fully open at some po...

Now I've calmed down a bit I can add some more. If I did it again I would remove the seats first as they restrict getting the centre console out. I noticed that unplugging the headlight switch with the battery still connected resulted in the lights being on permanently. Odd. I also added extra sound...

Right.. Done it. Almost. I'm in the process of getting it all back together - lost my mojo cause I'm having a beer. I was in the process of getting the centre console back in. It's not a difficult job it's just that there are so many parts to remove to get to where you need to be. I didn't remove th...

Anyway.. Can anyone ID this part? I found it in the passenger footwell when removing the lower panels. It's about 40mm long with a snap pin on it but I can't find where it goes.

This weekend is when I'm going to replace the heater blower motor so the dash has to come out. As my X5 has the comfort option everything is moved electricly. So in order to get everything out I have to move the seats and steering wheel therefore the battery must be connected. But.. to get the airba...

Engine Failsafe prog..
Having just gone through the agro of engine / trans failsafe on mine maybe I can give some advice.. Is yours engine failsafe or trans failsafe? I would look toward the ABS module as they are at the top of the hit parade for failure and causing the failsafe. I can be checked with a multimeter but it ...

Trans failsafe
Nope. Plug and play. Same part number tho. I did the same on my old E39 several years ago as that module had already been repaired when I took it off..
I've only driven it for 4/5 miles at the moment but so far so good.

Trans failsafe
Update.. Ecu Repair had the module. They called me and said it was faulty but beyond repair unfortunately. Drat! Had to plump for a used one from Ebay which cost me £200.Bit of a gamble but it's got a 3 month warranty. Anyway, it arrived (abs pump included) so I whipped it apart and put the used mod...

Hedgehog
I'm having the same agro with mine as well as trans failsafe etc. Could be related but my blower fan has been squeaking for months then started to really groan about 2 months ago. Doesn't run at all now but it's not seized cause I managed to get a stick up through the hedgehog cavity and it turns fr...
