winter wheels and tyre set up

Guys, I know some of you run a winter set up and would like to pick your brains. I've got the 4.6 and toying with the idea of a winter/off road set up, we've just purchased a piece of land and I need a vehicle that will cope with driving on it all year round, could go and buy a 4x4 truck but thought...

What are they really worth?

The jobs you've listed are not a specialist bmw job, any decent garage would be able to carry those jobs out, I use the local tyre and battery auto centre for simple tasks, they're quite good actually, and a lot cheaper than a specialist indie. As for the pas pressure pipe, if you're going to to do ...

What are they really worth?

My 2005 E53 3.0d Sports is at at an Indy garage with the following diagnosis : 1) Straight front arms 2) Rear bent arms and ball joint 3) Front traction arm bushes 4) Power steering pressure pipe ..... Still needs an oil service and possibly a brake fluid renewal All (i.e. 1-4 ) is coming in at a l...

How did you find that out, or has someone suggested it could be that?

Battery charger recommendation

I would put the Optimate on it and give it a go. It might not charge it fast but i don't think you are in a rush but it will charge it in time. Is the Optimate one of the intelligent type chargers or smart whatever they call them. If it is just leave it on. It's on there now to see what it can do, ...

Battery charger recommendation

I've been looking at the ctek for a while now, but you know how it is, always putting it off for another day, well if nothing else, covid has taught me that don't keep putting things off, as you never know what's around the corner, even if you've had both jabs and been very very careful, (like me ),...

Battery charger recommendation

Seeing as I'm currently recovering from covid I've not been using the x5 and unfortunately the battery has gone flat, I've got an optimate charger that I used to use on my bike but I don't think its man enough for the 4.6.
What do you guys use to keep your battery tip top.

What are they really worth?

I wouldn't break it myself, as you say, it's a job that would take too long and probably not go down well with swmbo. Also, it would be such a shame to scrap what is still a very sought after vehicle, I suppose it just comes down to the financial aspect if, or when selling. I've just come home from ...

What are they really worth?

I know, they're worth what someone is willing to pay, but I thought I'd ask anyway. You hear people saying that they are becoming quite rare now so must still be worth something, on the other hand, they are big thirsty petrol guzzling beasts which are not flavour of the month if you think of the dir...

PCP deals are bad on this model

Do you not think that the whole of the motor industry is up in the air at the moment, along with other sectors. From component shortages right through to used car sales/availability. Personally if it was me wanting a new deal etc I'd wait until things settle/ level out, if that ever happens, unless ...

Faults

Always good to get the lpg serviced regularly, and by someone who knows what they're doing. No point in having a system fitted designed to save running costs if it's not performing as it should. When they're operating correctly you'll hardly notice the difference, ( as you already know ), but become...

Faults

Good work, sometimes it's just old school fault finding, which is quite nice nowadays Not many of these left out there, let alone lpg conversations that still work as they should. My beast doesn't get used much nowadays and I often think it's a waste just sat there, but then you have chance to get o...

selling my 4.6?

Probably, after a lot of thought, will be selling the beast, ( just don't use it ), I'll get a full sales thread up on here in the next few days, and chuck it on ebay, but if there's anyone out there looking for one of these, in the best colour, in my opinion, ( estoril ), then give me a shout for d...

Re: oil filter mod?

I use the x5 very very rarely and sometimes get a momentary rattle on start up for a second or 2, it seems to be top end and comes from the left hand side, it almost sounds like a tappet sort of sound but slightly heavier, I've fitted a new tensioner and it's made no difference. I was planning on ge...
