Re: X3 tyre problem

I had horrendous drivetrain problems when I picked up my E83 3.0 D 2009 M sport, running staggered setup Researched the problem and found out the front rims are only 1/2 inch thinner than the rears. Looked at the tyre sizing table for rim widths and the rear tyre size is compatable with the front ri...

Re: New to me E70 LCI 2011 - Problems?

Looks like the SAS needs changing. The SAS is part of the DSC system, and is a common culprit for putting the 4x4 light on Hence when you disconnect the battery, / or flat battery. The SAS looses its calibration, and you then get the 4x4 light on Tho remedy this you have to roll the car forward and ...

Re: Hissing Sound from under car

Most common " hissing sound is leaking airbags on the rear suspension
Get some diluted fairy liquid in a spray bottle and douse the rear airbags, this will result in bubbles from the offending item
The E70's seem the worst offender.

Re: Long brake peddle

It has been covered before, by owners who have lost brake fluid through leaks/ blown brake lines etc. The Garage needs BMW software to open up valves in the ABS pump to enable bleeding of the rear brakes. Is your garage a BMW indie, or just a normal garage. If they aren't BMW specialists, may be wor...

Re: Position of EWS module in an 2004 E53 4.4

In post #3 in the outpost link it says on the RHD ars the module is on the left side, not the drivers side.

Re: Wife thinks I've lost the plot....wheels related.

The trouble I found with ACS wheels, I fitted some to my E60 5 series after I discovered 3 out of my 4 OEM rims were buckled , this only showed up when I went to non Runflats. They make your discs and Calipers look naff and lost in the gaps. So next mod will have to be a Brembo large brake kit and d...

Re: Gearbox worry?

Hi all. I ve not posted for a while, two reasons. Firstly , I've managed to get away from the BMW owners / enthusiast belief that it's the ultimate driving machine ! I was firstly many years ago seduced by my test drive of an E30 325i sport coupe in white, which was an unforgettable motoring experie...

Re: smoke from exhaust while stuck in traffic and engine has a duck in it ????

It could be the car was carrying out a DPF regen at the time.
If it doesn't smoke like this all the time I wouldn't be too concerned.

Re: rear number plate size

RR sports and Rover 75's have the big plates that fill the shape of the licence plate recess,
They look to be dealer fit
The regs usually focus on minimum size, and relate to lettering, not the plastic background. 🤔

Re: Newbie

Hi and welcome to the forum, water temperature reaching halfway when idling then dropping to a third is common on the 3.0 d. The thermostat fails open, so when driving along it over cools , as it can't shut to maintain normal coolant temperature. The thermostat needs replacing . Wheel judder under b...

Re: engine fault code 274E help

From what I've read, several different posts say 02 sensor , would have expected it to be all the misfires on one bank though, not on 6 of the eight cylinders.
Have you got inpa, or a reader that will let you read live data from the 02 Lambda sensors.?

Re: E70 LCI STOLEN !

I'm also saddened to hear that your X5 was stolen, The X5 always seems to top the list most years , as the most stolen car on our roads. As mentioned in this thread, the car manufacturers don't seem to be overly bothered about making their cars secure enough to determine thieves. The trouble with ca...

Re: Potential new owner looking for a decent winter weapon

Hi and welcome to the forum I wouldn't rule out pre facelifts because of the lack of Xdrive. The pre facelift still has a 60/40 split 4 wheel drive system, or unlike discos or range rovers of the same era, apart from no low ratio and diff locks. Snow tyres are the Key, as mentioned. The downside of ...

Re: Judders / Jerk at stop

Thanks for the replies. Could you recommend transmission oil/filter? Also a code scanner? Thanks. If you type the last 7 digits of your VIN into real OEM ( BMW OEM is a parts catalogue on the internet that lists every part on your BMW from its build sheet, access it from Google ) Look under gearbox...

Re: Judders / Jerk at stop

gB. Gearbox The shunt when coming to a stop is the dreaded " Lurch " There is loads of info on the Lurch on the internet, some boxes do it, most don't. Pre 2004 ( Prefacelift cars have the 5 speed gearbox, GM or ZF The GM boxes are more prone to problems, loads of prefaceloft cars you see ...
