I think the thing for me is that big rims and low profile tyres work really well when cars are lowered and sothe rims sit nicely into the arch. As you say though, this is what modding is all about. I have done plenty of E46 facelift angel eye upgrades. These too have to be split be heating the bonding resin. If they are the same on the E53 then there should be no need to put them in the oven. You can use a heat gun or hairdryer and prise them apart. Where abouts are you (if in the UK)?

And when you apply the brakes, it's like there is nothing there until suddenly they bite. Would love to get a new set of rims....... have seen some 21's but tyres are rare...
