Mirrors
I’m reasonably familiar with how the mirrors work and all the gears and that inside I built these ones out of bits an pieces I had accumulated about 8 years ago. It’s just finding time as I’m up to my elbows doing stuff to the Alpina, plus it seems to be always raining.

Torque Settings - Replacement of Rear Wheel Bearings
I did all the wheel bearings about 4+ years ago when I also dropped the rear subframe some of the wheel bearings came out with my little 6 ton press, I had to put in a 10t jack for one which slightly bent the press. Like Leslie said some are a pain. Didn’t use any BMW special tools no doubt they wou...

Drivers side is still folding but lots of slipping cog noise after you have completely switched off. If folded with the switch/button with ignition in accessory position maybe slips 2 teeth then when key turned off and removed it will start slipping for about 3/4 seconds. Then opens up fine when eng...

How to detect shock absorber issue?
I put sachs on about 6 years ago which is what was fitted originally and got to 125k so assuming the new ones haven’t dropped in quality I will be happy with another 125k. Just had the b3 right hand shock bottom out on speed bumps and pot holes and have fitted an fk automotive suspension to that whi...

Fuel smell
There is a fuel vent valve on the front right cylinder head (as you look at the engine) has an inlet and outlet pipe plus an electrical plug. The valve is cycled by the ECU to vent the tank fumes into the inlet manifold. Check one of those pipes isn’t disconnected from the valve or got holes. Also t...

Just to update as to what I’ve done so far, as the e46 has the same hedgehog I took it out and bunged it into the X, no joy. I then fitted the old X hedgehog into the e46, works fine as did the one I bought. So hedgehogs ruled out. In my frustration I thumped the top of the dash and uttered some cho...

Looking at the potential replacement fan from FEBI it is 210w so presumably similar wattage to what’s in there and capable of a quick burst of 12v

So in theory if I disconnect the a/c/ hvac unit (for safety) unplug the hedgehog and put 8/9v from a torch battery to pin 1 and 5 the the motor should spin. For added safety remove fuse 64 (50 amp)

The X671 I assume is the hedgehog that has 5 wires going in/out. The red has battery voltage brown is earth, can’t remember colours now but 1 moved between 0 fan off and 8v fan on full. I would be very reluctant to poke voltage at any of the wires to check if the fan runs. Looks like it’s dash out a...

Ok new resistor in and no change. There must be a way to put 12v to the blower to double check before dash out. Is there a relay for the motor. Have checked fuse and it’s ok.
