In the UK? You can’t. Those nice people at BMW have only made a tracking facility in the US because they have to. Your Dealer should be able to give you a Production Number as soon as the order is accepted (sounds like it has been). With that you can call BMW UK Customer Services and they will tell ...

I wonder what's under the bonnet of this?

A much better transmission too most likely. The OEM one would have fainted when shown those tyres…..it would be a rusty-tufty manual box too.

FRM Fault Codes

Looking the codes up on line - this one’s not bad - https://bmwfault.codes/ Code 00A8AA - low headlight beam fault. Could be an issue with adaptive headlight if fitted? Code 009CBA - LIN Bus disturbed - possible wiring issue, usually affect door card buttons for mirrors etc. Code 00A8AD - side marke...

Not Starting X5 3.0 DIESEL 06

It was worth a check. :)

Try looking up the code on line and going through the suggestions there.

A ‘leak-off’ test will prove/disprove an injector (it might be a different one!).

Not Starting X5 3.0 DIESEL 06

Could be air still trapped in the system that’s causing a low pressure alarm. On line searches suggest the use of ISTA-D for the process. Might sound daft, but are all the connectors fully home as well? It wouldn’t be the first time that an electrical connection got overlooked. Diesel is not a condu...

E53 X5 metal screeching sound (from suspension/rack) when I turn the steering wheel right.

Hello and :hi:

Things to check are: power steering fluid level, power steering pump, any sign of leaks around the PAS system generally - the hoses were a known issue in 2004. Worth checking front wheel bearings and drive shafts for excess play or noise (rumbling, grinding).

Laser headlights are sadly being discontinued. BMW say their new ‘megapixel’ adaptive LEDs are better, and kinder to the environment (and no I don’t know what the lasers do that’s nasty!). Still available in a few models, but not for much longer. I’ve got them on the i4 and they are well worth the e...

A big part of the problem is that modern cars are just so complex. Something as (relatively) simple as replacing a windscreen now means a trip to a dealership to have the myriad of sensors recalibrated. Spare parts are seriously expensive too. Gone are the days of swapping a headlight bulb. Now ever...

I don’t expect an ICE powered car to go up that much. Insurers are getting twitchy about EVs because there is a lot of garbage, myth and misinformation around fixing them. Mainly to do with the batteries. Industry’s collective knowledge is still developing, as is the repair industry’s technical abil...

2011 X1 towbar wiring problem.

We’ve not had many X1 folks on here. Each version is specific so you’ll need the instructions for that wiring kit/car combination.

Was it a retrofit item? If so, have a look at RealOEM and use the last 7 of your VIN to pull up the right model. If it’s a retrofit kit then it should appear in that section and there should be an EBA reference number. That’s the number for the instructions that you should be able to get from a frie...

2011 X1 towbar wiring problem.

Have a look at the PF Jones website (they sell all the major brands and wiring kits) as you can download instructions from there and those might point you in the right direction.

The plug usually goes into a separate module that comes with the kit. Not having the module may be the problem you have?

Engine Failsafe prog..

A code check should show up an error code for whatever is upsetting the engine. It could be any one of a number of issues such as fuel rail pressure, ignition coil pack, injector, wiring fault, sensor (oxygen, airflow, temperature etc), timing (VANOS), bad earth between engine and body, and those ar...

The quote has come through for next year’s cover for the i4, and as expected there’s a large jump. 67% to be exact. I renewed the E46 a few weeks back and that had jumped by almost 40% even though it’s 19 years old with very low annual mileage. Press reporting had been saying there were large increa...
