I had to get a new key for my 640d from the dealer last year and was only £120.00....£500 is silly money, probably because its a newer model?

So I serviced my sprinter van yesterday and thought I better reset the service indicator which pops up on the dash, this time I used the steering wheels buttons to reset rather than digging out the diagnostics machine......well I nearly fell over!....msg popped up in the binnacle..."Next servic...

Ah I see, I was a bit late replying to the thread, I had gloss black on my e53, its just the brake dust that makes them look dirty after about a week, but easy to clean.

I had a a code for the 02 sensor with no eml light on....only reason I plugged it in was I had a bit of smoke coming from the rear so changed it out and no more smoke.....

Is castrol the best option, usually I use valcoline or shell helix. Don't want to use wrong one because this rebuild is going to cost me £6k Thats what Ive used the last 10yrs, you have to use LL in BM's.....also 'CASTROL' is on top of the oil filler cap :D I get mine from Opie oils if you register...

Sorry to hear of your woes, as a matter of interest how many miles had it covered before failure, I only ask as I have a fairly low mileage 2018 40d (34k miles) and wondering is I should start to be concerned, I bought it with 18 miles on the clock and it’s had annual oil and filter changes. That seems to be your problem.....are you using a generic scanner as a BMW designated one will tell you which number injector is bad....but looks like No5.....most of the time its 5 or 6
