Owning an EV for 12 months
I use Octopus Energy’s Intelligent Octopus Go as my tariff. They use green energy (so they say) rather than power station derived energy. Their ‘normal’ tariff is the Ofgen capped rate (£0.2525p/kWh). The daytime rate is £0.2376p/kWh and runs from 05:30 to 23:30. Their off peak (23:30 to 05:30) rate...

Owning an EV for 12 months
I’ve now been the proud owner of a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) rather than a hybrid of any kind and thought I’d share so,e thoughts together with the costs. As some may know, I bought a BMW i4 M50 a year ago after waiting 14 months from order to delivery. The i4 is based on the current G26 4-Seri...

Doesn’t look too tricky. 4 wires only if I’m reading it right.

Seething and downright angry
That’ll teach them. Someone on the i4 forum tried to replace their shifter (looked the same as the E71 until March ‘23) with the newer version like this in mine: IMG_1438.jpeg and bricked the car. It was only a couple of plugs that needed moving as the shift switch works the same, but there’s a very...

There are kits available - I’m pretty sure this Osram kit is very likely what BMW rebadged.

BMW did at one point offer a kit for non-DRL equipped cars. There wasn’t one for the E70/71 as those came with DRLs from the factory, albeit not LED. The slim, horizontal lamps went into the plastic trim close to the front fogs. I can’t find them listed on REALOEM meaning they were withdrawn before ...

Mine was the same.sapphireblack wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 3:49 pm Airbags while you waited? Perhaps the fitters are more adept at it now. My E71 was an overhight guest of the dealership.

Ouch……one of those I wish I’d never started jobs.
For those unaware, Cotswolds offer discounted parts to Forum members. Assuming it still works ‘cotswoldbmwmini’ is their ident on here. If you send them a PM with details and your VIN they’ll come back to you.

Oh well, at least the cheap options were tried first. 190k isn’t bad I suppose.

Ctek charger
Are the connections the right way round? The warning light is either - reversed polarity, interrupted charging or not on a 12V battery. Your BMW battery is very likely AGM - most have been since the early 2000’s. You need to press <Mode> to put it into AGM charging. The charging cycle is different. ...

The pictures look to be the wrong way round… The first one is (I think) with the car engine off and the second with it running? The second one implies the charging voltage is too high. It should be no higher than 14.4V. Really the only reliable tool for measuring is a multimeter rather than an App (...
