Re: Swirl flaps
Thanks for these. I've now had a further look at RealOEM and specifically at the E60 and E46 with the same engines. The intake manifols specifically mentions 'EU3 or EU4 emissions with flap control' . The X5 E53 has nor mention of such an animal and selecting the same diagram as for the E60 or E46 r...

Re: Swirl flaps
I'd seen that article too and wondered at what point this may need doing on our 2005 E53 and E46 as they both have the same engine (M57) and approx 45k miles on them. I wasn't sure if this issue is still an issue, and if so, how common. I'll go look at the recommended site..... There seems to be som...

Re: Parking heater remote start- Enabling
OK, just humour an old man.............as expected SWMBO thinkls this is a good idea - which means - go and do it.................. :( Needle into Pin 1 on the Webasto Thermal Top Z unit brings the system on with no issues. Seems to run perfectly happily. That's the easy bit. At what point should th...

Re: Retro fit heated seats (comfort seat)
I have had a look at Realoem and it makes no mention of comfort seat pads with or without heating, just one pad type with different colours. The heated seat retofit kit only shows a new switch unit for the lower front console.

Re: bank transfer advice
Although generally seen as one of the safer ways of moving money, you need to be aware that they are not guaranteed and can be 'reversed' if the other party claims the wrong bank details were used, oops oh dear, so sorry genuine mistake etc. Have a look on the web under 'Bank Transfer Safety' and se...

Re: Costly repairs
As far as I know the issue affects all as the only difference is in the power the Torque Converter can handle. The 3.0d (218bhp version) and 4.8 V8 use the same one as the torque is similar. The 6sp was originally only on those two models with the other two using a GM 5sp unit. There are as many, po...

Webasto's in the X6 Diesels?
Just curious as to whether the newer BMW Diesels (E70 / E71) also have some form of Webasto fuel/engine heating system included - not talking about the fully enabled Aux Heating even though that is just a remore connected to the unit fitted in an E53 as an example. I know I can have the reomote auxi...

Re: Costly repairs
Had to have my PAS hoses replaced under warranty and they changed them for a modified version which has better strain relief apparently. The originals were leaking from the lower joints. Check the PAS Fluid level when you get it back too. Mine was very low and obviously had not been rechecked by the...

Re: SWARF IN OIL
Lizzie, not had the same issue, but swarf in an engine is never a good sign. It will depend upon what it has come from and what it has got to, and how big the particles are, and how long it was running in that state. The main worry has to be main bearing shells on the crank and camshafts, and any ot...

Re: Parking heater remote start- Enabling
£600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yike!! How on earth do they justify that? No don't tell me, coz it's a BMW and they can!! I think I'm likely to go down the Maplin route too then. Assuming you can't just buy the bits somewhere and plug em in - no plug and play would be waaayyy too easy!! SWMBO takes over my E...

Re: X6 used values!! read on!
Unless it was the MoD? There's a story I've overheard from a reputable source that the UK Military have bought a pair of ex-Demo X6Ms. I can't think why they'd need that sort of performance. We had fast enough vehicles when I worked for Surrey Police 30 years ago, but no one I've spoken to can think...

Re: Parking heater remote start- Enabling
I take it the OEM option - detaile from RealOEM is too expensive then for most people to consider?

Out of interest is it a straightforward fit, or a PITA job? No idea where the control box fits.

Re: facelift diesel advice needed........looking to buy
From what I've seen on the various boards, loss of pixels quite often means a change of the entire instrument cluster - not cheap! Vehicle then has to go to a dealer to be recoded. Not sure on price as mine is a year newer with a lot less mileage (44k) and that came in at around £17k Max, £14k tra...

Re: BMW UK Launches Winter Tyre Hotel Scheme
The BMW Dealer around me isn't offering it as they have nowhere to store the unused set. If we had a set for the E53 aNd the E71 that's a lot of cost and space required. i am looking at it for the X6 though, but only if I cand find rims at a sensible price. Smallest I've seen in the car's handbook i...
