Quick question urgent answer..

Would an E53 interior ie front / rear seats and door cards fit into another E53 for transportation? I may have to collect such items but my Discovery is in the garage so I only have my X5 to use for such a thing. Has anyone done this? I would imagine that a stripped out interior takes up a lot of sp...

E53 Rear Camber issues

Camber is not the main cause of inside tyre wear - it’s toe. I’ve replaced all the bushes on mine (twice) and I set up the camber on its minimum setting with the car jacked up and air bags deflated then it’s easy. I also did the toe by setting up tight strings on either side and getting equal measur...

Finally got round to having a new AC compressor installed today. What a difference- engine is smooth as. Fresh MOT so all good. Got a few other bits to sort out over the summer. New front driveshafts and the steering universal joint (I think). Not necessary but I’m gradually going through the car to...

Severe vibration at 50 mph +

Oh yes it's sticking. I pumped the piston out as far as I could without it falling out., peeled the boot back and it had rusty bits on the piston. I've cleaned it up as good as I could, sprayed some lube around it the pumped it in and out several times until it felt free ish. We will see until I get...

Severe vibration at 50 mph +

A sticking caliper did cross my mind - front nearside has been a bit stiff in the past.
I've got a rebuild kit somewhere so that's possibly a job for tomorrow.
Thanks chaps.

Severe vibration at 50 mph +

Good grief get your thinking caps on.. Just drove the car for the first time above 50mph after the mot. Absolutely crazy vibration through the whole car like driving on a cattle grid after 50mph and upwards. Steering wheel shaking badly too. I slowed down to 50 to keep it drivable. Anyway, after abo...

The new compressor is on its way so I'm booked in next week to have it put back together.
Would you believe it - a tail light bulb blew this morning..
Mine has the top bulb lit and also the one below it. Is that correct? Why does it need 4 bulbs lit up

Disaster! The used ac compressor turned out to be seized.. So much for a 30 day warranty. Its been in my garage for over 6 months. I've had to order a new one at £185 ( should have done that in the first place) so now I'm driving around with no ac as the old compressor has been removed. I shall have...

Had the MOT today. Pass. No advisories. Get in! Not bad for a 20yr old.. The only thing he mentioned to me was that I have the wrong tail light bulbs in. Apparently they should be 5w but mine are 21w (?) so they are as bright as my brake lights. Never knew. Been like that for years. It's still in ha...

Steering column advice

I’ve noticed a slight knocking in the steering column on my X5. I first thought it was the universal joint but after further inspection it seems to be the bearing where the column goes through the bulkhead. There is a piece of foam there too. Has anyone any experience of this or how to go about repl...

Clutch fan

Just putting it out there.. Many years ago in my Porsche days I met a chap who had a 928 and he had removed the viscous fan from the engine saying that it had never overheated. Now, my V8 has a viscous fan and a big electric fan in front for that AC. I had a Frontera once with a viscous but no elect...
