In answer to the question RRPhil has informed me that "there is an extra clutch in the D brake (5 instead of 4) upper valve block has different KV-B and KV-E valves. Bell housing can be swapped" Dammed if you do and if it brakes you wish you’d spent the money in the first place there is an...

Yes a bit of a dilemma it could be a different number because of the bell housing or some nuts and bolts in a different position. Will have to search some more and see if I can find someone who has done the conversion.

RealOEM lists them both as A5S440Z but no mention that the 4.6l has a different bell housing but I assume it would be a straight forward swap.

Not sure if you can reset the flap motors or not I’ll have to have a fiddle with the diagnostic tool. Good suggestion though

Heater

I’m not sure what roll the hedgehog plays in this as the fan is working fine it just blows hot out of one side and cold the other. It like there is a flap stuck and not allowing the hot air through but that happens inconsistently on both sides which you would think would show up on diagnostics. Last...

Heater

Am I the only one having problems? Heater, sometimes I only get hot air from one side, not consistent as next time it will be the other side. Tried putting the heat up/down on non working side with no joy. Next start all is fine. Coolant level is good, auxiliary water pump works, checked with diagno...

Broken location pin. Cracked motor housing. Micro switch. Dead motor. Internal gears stripped. Not overly difficult you can get the gears for £10 on eBay or complete kit for £35. I normally put 12v to the motor wires if it doesn’t work then swap them round if it still doesn’t work then motor is knac...

It was neither of the two things you mentioned, a new set of gears at roughly £10 and sorted. They do get a lot of use because I have the Resler app which folds when switched off and on when started.

I’m reasonably familiar with how the mirrors work and all the gears and that inside I built these ones out of bits an pieces I had accumulated about 8 years ago. It’s just finding time as I’m up to my elbows doing stuff to the Alpina, plus it seems to be always raining.

Torque Settings - Replacement of Rear Wheel Bearings

I did all the wheel bearings about 4+ years ago when I also dropped the rear subframe some of the wheel bearings came out with my little 6 ton press, I had to put in a 10t jack for one which slightly bent the press. Like Leslie said some are a pain. Didn’t use any BMW special tools no doubt they wou...

Drivers side is still folding but lots of slipping cog noise after you have completely switched off. If folded with the switch/button with ignition in accessory position maybe slips 2 teeth then when key turned off and removed it will start slipping for about 3/4 seconds. Then opens up fine when eng...

How to detect shock absorber issue?

I put sachs on about 6 years ago which is what was fitted originally and got to 125k so assuming the new ones haven’t dropped in quality I will be happy with another 125k. Just had the b3 right hand shock bottom out on speed bumps and pot holes and have fitted an fk automotive suspension to that whi...
