Deflection Pulley
Be aware if your serpentine belt all of a sudden falls off!!, after a couple of hours of taking things apart and trying to fit a new belt I couldn't work it out why I had so much belt slack ???.....then I realised I was missing a pulley....sure enough #4 wasn't anywhere to be seen...snapped off...en...

Always seems to be number 5 injector that goes....I have an X5 aswell as the X6...the 5 was running a bit lumpy...plugged the diags in and live tested...low and behold...misfire pot 5...easy to sort

Get the code erased, then go for a drive and read them again to se if it comes back...if it does change the cam sensor....you'll have two one per bank if I recall correctly...long time since I worked on a V8.

Sounds like a vac leak to me, have you checked all sensors are plugged in, no sure on a 2002 but on a 2004 there's a sensor at the rear of the intake manifold if that is not seated properly you will get a whoosing noise...check around all the possible intake pipes, if you spray some carb cleaner aro...

Im Marti, Have just purchased an X6 3.0d (35), pick it up this Sunday...so will be on here looking around for all the problems..haha!! Also own at the moment X5 3.0d Sport E53, soon up for sale but have a few things to do, full service and a valet before I put it up for sale,dont like selling cars ...
