I knew it!

Post by Themoog2 » Fri Feb 12, 2021 5:19 am

Driver door handle broke inside yesterday. I knew it was coming what with ice etc so I planned ahead and bought a spare months ago.
Just have to keep my fingers warm somehow when I swap it over..
Hasn't anyone designed one that lasts yet?

Mine went about 3 years back and i got one from bmw.
Spent hours priming sanding painting lacquer baked it in the oven did what i thought was a good job.
Fitted it and it looked good.
The next Saturday it went in for mot and James one of the testers went to the car grabbed the shiny new handle and yanked it straight off :( :( :(
BMW replaced it but i had to start again painting.

Had one fail, (drivers side) on the E53 years ago now. I just coughed up the money and paid the dealer. I forget how much, probably a good thing anyway.

It was only the actuator though in my case, the exterior handle was OK.

It's not the outer bit it's inside. The last one had the cable snap but I haven't taken this one out yet to see what is broken.

Has it gone floppy sort of ?.
If so it's the actuator snapped at one end.

So anyway I removed the carrier in the freezing cold today. Nothing obvious broken - the that the cable has stretched or is ready to break. The door handle works now in a much more positive way.
