In my recently bought X5 I am trying to sort some niggles that are getting to me. One being that the dash lights are really dim even on full brightness. The actual speedo etc are all fine, only the digital display, with mileage etc on it. From looking at it there seems to be 2? bulbs behind there ond one of mines seems to be out. Is this likely to be the case? If so is it an easy enough job to do? Im confident enough to take the dash out and replace a bulb if thats all, if so can anyone tell me what the bulb is to pre order it before removing the dash.
Thanks

Dash lights really dim, bulb replacement?
Re: Dash lights really dim, bulb replacement?
Anyone any idea is they clocks on the e53 use the same bulbs as in the link for the illumination of the dash? And also if they are the same bulbs as used on other makes/models as £6 seems a bit overpriced for what it is. Are these accessable by removing the clocks or do they require taking apart?
Re: Dash lights really dim, bulb replacement?
Dealer only I was told.
The binnacle is a five minutiae job to remove. Fully extend the steering column ,and fully tilt it down, leave the keys in so it doesn't retract.
Undo the two small screws on the cowl at the top, you may have to look up over the clocks.
Can't remember if they are torq heads or Philips screws.
Once the screws are out pull down the top and ease out the clock binnacle.
The bulbs are bay not fitted into the rear of the unit.
There is a how to on Youtube.

Re: Dash lights really dim, bulb replacement?
The pod comes out really easy, 2 T9 torx screws then 3 multi-plugs, the bulbs are 12v 1.5w 8.4d like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/221155080157?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108
There's 5 bulbs in total 2 for the top line mileage, trip, outside temp. 2 for the OBC and 1 for the service indicator.
