Boot fittings

Post by chrisn7 » Tue Sep 09, 2014 1:14 pm

I have noticed that there may be what looks like a sound insulation cover over the spare wheel in the parts diagram. I do not have this. However, there is a threaded pin with a boot floor support plate, that screws into the suspension air pump cover, which would have to pass through such a cover. The boot floor also has quite a thick 'carpet' layer, nothing like the usual car carpet, but is clearly original with the correct fittings, so it may be correct not to have the separate wheel cover. Could anyone confirm please?

Secondly, I do not have the semi circular plastic section that sits under the spare wheel between the 2 strips of wheel removal webbing. Seems an odd thing to go missing. Again, should this be present please?

Sometimes different years and options had different bits, and yes owners and garages take things out and forget to put them back.

Not sure about the first from your description.....a piccie would help.  I had the moving boot floor in mine and there was a very thin piece of insulation under it that sat on top of the pin & cap holding the spare wheel in position.

As for the second, there should be a handle that the webbing goes through.  Item no 1 on this diagram.  It clips over the lower tailgate and as you lower the tailgate neatly pulls up the spare from its well.  The handle sits in a little depression in the battery cover moulding.  It might have snapped off?

Again, a piccie might help clarify.

Looked at the ETK rather than BMWfans last night, and for my chassis no, the diagram does not show either the spare wheel cover or the plastic support between the webbing, so apparently not fitted.

Got all of it in garage.  Can give it for free.
