Adding telestart t91

Post by Timh » Thu Dec 16, 2010 5:54 pm

Hi guys

I have bought a telestart t91 kit from germany and want to install it in my x5 2005 d sport.
The question is!!! Does the car have the wiring already done for this ie a plug in the boot? If not does anyone know where the wires are I need to connect. I have a harness from the telestart with 6 wires comming from it.

I noticed on here some else fitted on recently but I can't see on his pic where the wires went to.

Thanks for all your help

Tim

Tim I think there's a plug in the boot towards the bumper end iirc.
Brewer did this mod on the old forum and iirc Sanj knows where the plus/wires are for it because he used them for his reverse camera .....i think anyway.I can remember Jig giving him stick for using the source for the telestart  .....ohhh Sanj help please.........if you call him he comes eventually :D

Could anyone help with a similar problem.
I 've got a telestart T90, however it has 2 plugs as shown in photo Image and Image
I believe the connection I need to pug into is the one in this photo Image

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to:
a) Buy a connnector to go from one / both?? the T90 connections to the BMW plug.
b) If no connector is available - the code for an appropriate female BMW one & which cables of the 6 to connect to the 3 on the BM.

Hi-I have just bought a T91 remote kit and was wondering if you can share your experience with the install.

Is it as simple as plug and play into the slot beside the battery? (I've a 2006 3.0d with aux heat already coded).

Or is there more to it than that?

Have you managed to get it working successfully?

Thanks in advance.

Right....I have just installed my telestart t91.

I too have aux heating coded and it works fine

Basically you need to wire it as follows

6 pins in telestart plug (very small numbers visible)
Red to Pin 1
White/Green to Pin 3
Brown to Pin 6

Thats it for the wiring....I cut the plug off in the boot by the stereo module (about central to the rear of car). The plug you need has 3 wires as above pic shows. My t91 came with the correct plug to fit the telestart but not the right one for the BMW plug. I soldered the connections and heat shrunk the joints.

Next you pull fuse 86 in the boot and put it back in. Hold the off button on the remote within 5 secs. That codes the remote to the telestart...

Put car back together

And that's about it....very easy to do....thanks to the guys on here who sent me photos and emails on how to wire up.

Hi.

Could you clarify a couple of things for me?

Do you leave the 6 pin plug under the hood alone? As in the one thats actually connected to the webasto? You only need to possibly re-wire .. (or change the connector) the plug in the back?

My T91 has yet to arrive, so I don't know what plug will be on it, but from the pictures posted, it looks like the T91 might take the BMW socket in the back by the battery-maybe I'm wrong and it doesn't fit.

And with regard the pin wiring you give...thats for the plug going into the T91-again...you don't need to worry about re-wiring the six pin going into the webasto heating unit itself?

Here's what I bought-will I be able to just plug and play? No need for the blue connector and wiring? Or do I need to cut the BMW plug and then join it to pins as mentioned above?

Oh and one last thing...where did you install your antenna? Or did you need to?

Sorry...this is probably a post without patience as if my kit had arrived I would be able to see for myself !

Image

Thanks in advance

Been looking at exactly the same kit. Our E53 still needs 'Auxiliary Heating' I think it's called enabled, but I can get that done when the brakes are being done next week. If it is a simple as connecting the receiver into its slot in the boot, configuring the wiring to match the 6-pin VW type compared to the 3-pin BMW type then this looks incredibly simple (it helps that I are an eelektickle injuneer too 8-) ). Might be the next mod. Especially as te car has a nice new battery too.

Thats the same kit I bought

If you look at the blue plug in your photo then you can see it's different to the BMW plug in the earlier post. The problem is that the telestart unit will not take the BMW plug. Hence you need to cut off the one in the boot and wire your new harness to the those cut off wires.

Your blue plug has 6 wires comming from it but you only need the 3 mention in my eairler post.

Nothing to be done under the hood...it all happens in the boot.

Hope this helps but I am sure you will see once you get the unit.

Only problem is the remote fob has an Audi logo on it! Which is a sticker. I removed mine.

Is only a matter of joining the 3 wires in the boot as I said. Very simple.

Then code the remote to the car by pulling fuse and putting back in. Then press off button within 5 seconds!

Thats all there is to it!

Oh sorry!

I put my antenna in the rear drivers side window. This is where BMW fit them I believe.

The BMW plug defo won't fit into the t91 it's a little narrow and the pin spacing is slightly different hence the need to basically replace the BMW plug with the blue one supplied with the kit.

Btw

There are not any instructions at all with the kit.
