afternoon,

has anyone got any indication of a parts. vs labour [in hours] to replace the VANOS on V8's with new seals etc?

There was a post recently from a member here who had just done the job, IIRC he said £600 in parts £200 odd for the cam locking tool and he spent 22 hrs of his own time.
Do a search it was about mid Jan I believe.

I think that was cam chain and tensioners on a 4.6  :)

I have seen seals kit for ~30ish quid but apparently job is a lengthy task... Any hints?

The Vanos unit as I understand it is connected to the inlet camshaft. I believe you will have to remove the unit from the car to change the seals, so you will have to lock the timing in place as the timing chain turns the Vanos so there is a lot of stripping down. There are several Videos on You tube just Google it

Thx... No plans to DIY it as car does not have any issues at the mo (touch wood). However as part of contingency planning i'd like to understand what is the fig associated with repair if anyone has ever done it or knows one that have done that job...
