Hi,
Wondering if anyone knows what this might be. Was driving along, when when I was making a pass, went over the line which was a little bumpy, and suddenly had power loss for a second or two (but seemed like an eternity). All the warning lights came on.
I found this thread
http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/f12 ... s-t133354/
and I think what happened to me is similar except that when I pulled over, I turned the car off and checked everything. Then when I tried to restart the car, the ignition kept cranking but it never turned over. I tried that for about 5 seconds, and then stopped and waited 30 seconds. I tried again and it started without issue, no warning lights and everything seemingly ok.
Any ideas? I'm about to drive to France in a month, and don't want something like this to happen to me while on the journey!
FYI - I have a 2005 3.0d X5
Many thanks

Re: DSC causing power loss or something else?
Fuel system OK?
Folks are finding that fuel filters may be causing trouble at the moment, especially as they don't get changed very often and with the cold weather you might get if there is any water in there.
If the DSC was causing it I would expect the warning light for it, but not all of the lights. That and the fact you were unable to restart straight away could point to fuel supply issues.

Thanks for your replies.
I haven't noticed any problem with the fuel system -- is there something I should watch out for or do to test? I don't have a scanner, but with my luck, I would buy it and I'm sure there wouldn't be any error faults.
At the petrol station, I normally just buy the cheapest diesel on offer, but would the more expensive premium diesel help things?
Many thanks

Re: DSC causing power loss or something else?
Not really, no. The fuel filter will not generate a fault code. You might get a 'Fuel Injection' warning message, but that doesn't really help as it doesn't tell you what the problem actually is! It may not be the filter but one of the pumps instead, or even a failing fuel pump relay.

I've just changed the fuel filter on mine as the fuel injection warning light came on when you booted it and last night it cut out altogether, had codes read and it came up low fuel rail pressure, cleared code and seems to be fine now.
