Auto transmission specialist in Peterborough/Huntingdon area? Help!!

Post by SlimX47 » Sun Mar 22, 2015 2:25 pm

Well, after 22k miles put on my X5 in just under a year, the transmission went into failsafe mode yesterday and after about 25 miles I lost all drive. it started to rev a bit too much before moving about a week ago, so knew something was amiss then, just didn't expect complete failure to occur within 30 miles! ;-(
If anyone can point me in the direction of a specialist in the Cambs area, would be much appreciated- I know of A1 Transmissions near St Neots (who just want to rebuild the entire 'box at a cost of around £2.5k, and also a couple in Kettering.
Gearbox is the 5 sp GM 5L40E if it helps

Ta muchly in advance...

Once the oil pressure goes, the clutch packs fail very quickly.  A1 Premier Transmissions in Biggleswade rebuilt mine.  It needed a rebuild as the damage was extensive.....oil pump, torque converter, 2 clutch packs, 1 brake pack and Mechatronics Unit (ZF 6sp).  Good customer service and 12,000/12 month warranty.  They were selected by Warranty Direct.  They always have a lot of BMWs outside - which means lots of experience, and that BMW automatics are unreliable.. :(

Cool, will give them a tinkle tomorrow, many thanks!
Was thinking of 'updating' to a newer model (or X6), but quite like the old X5 so may well keep it running a while longer...

X5 back and running like it should again! A1 Premier Transmissions did the business, wasn't cheap but has 12 month warranty so at least I know it's been done properly. Complete rebuild, including torque converter and oil cooler...
They even took it to the garage next door and got the MOT sorted too! Collected from and returned to my door, can ask for more :-) Bring on the next 22k miles...
