Alarm siren location on an X5 2006 left hand drive

Post by Andyoptelic3 » Mon Mar 30, 2015 4:09 pm

I have an issue with my BMW X5 where the alarm is draining the battery, I have a mechanic looking into this but we can't seem to find the alarm siren location . I have spoken to a dealer and he tells me that it should be located at the passenger side back wheel arch , however it's not there . My mechanic can hear a quiet alarm type sound in the front right engine bay around the sub frame . Anyone out there have any ideas where we can find the little sucker , oh the car is a left hand drive German import .

Thanks

Sorry Andy no reply as yet, just me. Caine your mechanic to chip in.
So far I have removed to check for the siren/alarm sounder front scuttle trim (one usual place is next to brake servo) both rear inner arch liners, both the fronts too, the aluminum bolt on under pan, the cabin air intake guide and the pollen filter housing, front bumper, inlet air scoop, inlet air pipe & the air filter housing along with the engine top cover, to no avail. Simply can't be found even the plastic under pan covering gearbox. You can faintly hear the siren and its clearest / loudest if you put your ear to the front right subframe yet here above is the steering rack??? Admittedly turned here for some help, surely a 2006 e53 in LHD shouldn't be lot different to most RHD's? In the way of component locations,

Any input greatly appreciated and welcomed

Caine

Sounds really frustrating have you done a search on www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin in it brings up parts lists/drawings for your car. It may give some clues as to where they have hidden it sorry can't be more help as I have not had any alarm issues.

Sounds like it's just been relocated by accident.  Has it fallen/been taken off its proper mount?  Is it lying in a pile of crud on an underbody tray which has filled it up and made it go quiet for example?  The internal battery pack may also be dying which will make it very quiet too.

It should be by the brake servo/master cylinder if factory fitted - which not all markets were - on a LHD car.
