Caravan purchase

Post by kjb1 » Thu Apr 09, 2015 11:18 pm

having sold our 2005 Compass Omega 524 last year, we decided to look for another this week and have stumbled onto a Bailey Pegasus 546, its version with the fixed triple bunks at rear which is ideal for the children.  Anyone else have this van? it looks a lovely van and is Alutec construction on a 2011 build.  Comes with a motor mover already fitted, and the dealer has thrown in a brand new Kampa rallye air 390 porch awning which is fantastic and easy to setup.

Not a layout that many liked apparently..
3rd bunk is basically sleeping on the floor.

But there is a market for them and i thought they looked OK

As we only have 1 that sometimes comes with us we opted for a fixed island bed "mobile hotel suite"!!!

Basically its an executive 2 berth with a set of comfy sofas up front... lol

2010 Sterling Elite Explorer. (7.95m long twin axle ~ 1750kgs MPTLW)
Not too taken with the newer ones as they have the transverse bed and we like the in line version..

Only down side is the tyres are hideously expensive for what they are... and they had to be replaced this year!!!!  :( :-[
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

We had a Bailey Olympus II with the alutech construction. Had no issues and enjoyed the experience. Only down side for me was a traditional wooden constructed floor. Why go plastic and aluminium to then leave the floor to rot over time.

it has been the subject of work colleagues "banter", they are all desperate for it to let me down ( the leaf ) its amazing how much they want it to go wrong, left one of them standing the other morning on way into work in his Saab 93 diesel!! hahaha, he didn't mention it but could clearly see he was devastated by it after harping on about how slow it is etc!!! had to take her out if eco!! lol.

Used to be the same reaction against X5 diesel owners.......until one left them standing at the lights!  People were used to land rovers which had no 'go' and the X5 could scare more than a few hot hatches as it could keep up in the corners too.

Caravan purchase

Post by kjb1 » Sat Apr 11, 2015 5:48 pm

Well went to view the Bailey today, have to say, bit of a letdown, the cabinets all looked quite old fashioned and not a patch on our friends van which is the same year but clearly with a re-designed interior.  Ive ended up opting for a new swift sprite!!
