I had it serviced last year which sorted out the torque converter issues for a while but they are now back. I am told that torque converters cannot be rebuilt without doing the whole gearbox so it's on the cards soon.

that's going to cost.

Around the 2k Mark I am told.... A real pain to be honest as you can't really notice anything when driving... :(

That's not technically true...

It can be done, but it is a question of whether it had caused any other issues in the gearbox when it failed, or on what failed....

Some say false ecconomy not to do it but it is a matter of risk evaluation!!??

If you did it yourself then you may take the risk, but a company doing it for you will not.

I swapped out my torque convertor for a new one when I had some knocking noises and didn't open the geabox for that.
Turned out it was the flex plate had broken so didn't really need the torque convertor swap, but I put the new one in anyway.
Upshot is I have a refurbed spare torque convertor with only 300 miles on it!!  (just in case!!  O:-) )
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

Thanks for that.

How much do you think it would cost to buy and fit a refurbished TC?

Mine cost me £345, and fitted myself in approx 6 hours.
Then there are fluids etc

That was approx 2 years ago for a GM 5L40E (Pre facelift)
