But if they find it on the forecourt before the AUC kicks in (at point of sale) then they pay......hence them leaving it for the customer to 'discover'.

Hmm.  300 miles and just over a month later and I decide to change to my winter wheels only to find that the outer cv boot on the other side has a major split and grease has sprayed all over everywhere.  I wonder whether they inspected it when they found the other had split.  Also I found that they hadn't cleaned the grease spray off the inside of the wheel on the other side.  There was nowhere near as much as on the side that I found to have gone today but I suppose at least a know there was a split on that side and they didn't just mend the wrong one.
