I was lucky, the exhaust tips are another £700 so I got £2200 for about £700, an early Xmas present from the wife several years ago.
Have kept the original exhaust to put back on if I sell car.

I bought a pair of rectangular muffler tips off ebay for £40.... positioned them on the rear of the silencers, tack welded them on....

The chopped off both silencers forward of the Diff, cut open the tops of both silencers 1/3rd from the front & rearward, then cut open the top half of the silencer with a chop-saw..opened the lid like a spam can...
then
cut thru the tail pipes location with a hole borer into the silencer & then welded round the join of silencer to tail pipe..

Inside the silencer at the rear wall is a load of wadding & rock-wool stuff.... soak this in water before you remove it to prevent a dust storm... as its nasty stuff... then chop out the pipe that leads out to the front of the silencer & final exit, as this is not needed now...
chop off the original exit pipe from the front side of the silencer & weld this hole shut with scrap material chopped out from the hole boring exercise earlier...

Note - ONLY remove the rock wool wadding from the rear end of each silencer... NOT both ends, as the silencer needs to be able to generate some back pressure & resonance... and it will sound like a 1940's motorbike if you remove all the wadding.... and the performance will vanish...

Now wrap the pealed lid of the silencer back in place, tack weld at every inch.... then seam weld the whole join & re-assemble pipes back to the vehicle.

Note.. the new rear mufflers are attached to the silencer via an adapter tube, so they can be replaced if they go rusty in the future.
The adapter tube is the part that is welded to the silencer & often comes with the mufflers when purchased.

Costs =
£5 for CO2
£40 muffler tips
£15 pipe clamps to re-fit the pipes in situ.
Time - about 5 hours of swearing & getting burnt when welding...

Sound ........... Gently grumbley throbbing, sounds good, but will not annoy the neighbours
Performance.... Torque band widened 250rpm at both ends, ZERO reduction in performance or economy MPG

Total cost less than £60.... looks good with the chrome pipes, sounds nice too.

PM me with a mail address to ping you some pictures of the silencers & finished result.

Regards
Grant B

If any one wants me to duplicate what I did to my X5 exhausts to theirs...
If you can get to Salisbury with your vehicle & have a pair of pretty mufflers to poke out of the rear, then I will do the work for £300 for both silencers...fitted & secure.
Just a thought, if it can save some one £400 of their hard earned cash !
It takes approx 6 hours of hard work to do the job & makes a nice tidy result.

PM me if interested.
Regard
Grant B

I know when I was pricing mine up, the garage that fitted it for me could only find the Cobra system "off the shelf". Obviously there are other bespoke systems  available  but these places wanted the car on site to enable fitting.

Unfortunately Colin unless u find somewhere local to you bud you are stuck with the Cobra (which I love, it's not too loud and looks great) or you'll have to travel.

I got these stainless short mufflers with rectangular tips built in, about 6 months ago, from a company on eBay UK and had them posted down under. I got a local exhaust workshop to delete the existing rears and weld these in place. He was able to attach some stainless rod and use existing rubber mounting points. Has a nice note and no noticeable soot fallout on the rear, though my colour would mask it somewhat.
