Newbie here needing help

Post by Reded » Thu Sep 08, 2016 5:06 pm

Hi all picked a x5 3.0d e53 up last week with a few issues first had black smoke on acceleration so I changed air filter and cam breather and then found a vacume hose not connected the smoke is a lot better but there is still some smoke still then I changed oil and filter because it was leaking from top of the filter no gasket fitted and now I have a oil leak on passenger side of car so changed pressure switch too but still a leak any help with these issues would be great

If you got a leak since changing the oil filter... that would be the 1st place to check...

re black exhaust smoke.... being a diesel machine... blavk smoke isnt unusual on hard acceleration...
also bear in mind... maybe the previous owner drove like they were chauffeuring their mother-in-law, in which case the CAT converter could be coked up & your little pedal pushes are simply clearing the throat of the thing.

a good oil & filter & air filter change will not go amiss... as these machines like a 10k oil change... use the right oil though... not some cheap crap..

Heater plugs only operate within the first few seconds of a cold start and then shut off.

Hi.  I am getting Black exhaust smoke under hard acceleration.  Can you clarify what you had done to resolve it?
Thanks.

Replaced the vacume pipe from the black box on drivers side that goes under the inlet manifold
